Thank you to whomever mentioned the gizmo at amazon. I decided to
first find the disks, they were well hidden in a drawer, 26 of them in
all sorts of colours, with all sorts of scribblings over them so I
decided I had to know what was on them, gizmo ordered :)

i have been coming across some 3&1/2" floppies (which aren't so
floppy as the 5&1/4" or 8&1/2" versions) but i don't care what's
on them enough to spend the $.

last year i did some work on some old hard drives and had bought
another gizmo i could plug them into, but it did not work for all
of the disks. that was ok, they were likely fried and even if they
weren't i didn't care. they were all going to the recycler anyways
and i hope they got ground up and reused somehow. i don't think
anyone would care about whatever i might have had on them anyways
(old win98, winxp, etc.).

one thing i do like about having the desktop machine and the
motherboard that can support plenty of USB headers is that if you
plug and unplug a lot of devices you can use the headers and fill
them up with cheap USB expansion boards and not wear out your hard-
wired USB ports that are right on the motherboard.

I think that was Bryan who sent the link to the USB external floppy
drive. I still have an internal floppy drive, but it's rarely used.

That woman who posted on here some time ago never mailed me those floppy
disks with her grand mother's recipes. I did e-mail her. I would have
extracted them for her, but oh well.

A couple weeks ago I was at the library and picked up what I thought was
a classical music CD at the "free to good home" rack. I went to play it
and when I opened it up I was surprised to find a 3 1/2" floppy. WTH?

I will have to keep an eye out for one. I wore out the USB ports on my
old laptop.

I have all my old desktops back to a 486 so I can transfer data from
5.25" floppies relatively easily. I had to update some old data for the
Feds and transferred the 5.25 to 3.5" then to a CD using the old machines.
Then I had to get a special app written to input the data into a new
program.

gack! i dislike laptops (don't like my nuts warmed among
many other issues including them often not having very robust
hardware).

You're right, it was Bryan!

Wasn't me, I know it is not recipes on them.

I used to target practice on aol disks swinging in the wind. My friends were amazed at how I always shot bullseyes.

Very early 2000's, in vacation bible school, I remember piles of donated
AOL CD's which me made arts and crafts with, heh.

They are good for hanging in gardens to scare birds away.

Yes, I've seen gardeners use them that way. They spin, sparkle, and reflect
the sunlight. Scarecrows on a string!
