don't like them. they feature a big burger every once in a while on cooking shows. burgers so big that only an ox could finish them. some of them, they are brought to the table and then cut up so that everyone can enjoy. me? i'd rather have a max. 6 oz. burger that's simply done. no crazy toppings. maybe some fresh and fried onions and mustard. a touch of hot sauce. a bit of horse radish.
some of these crazy big burgers have like 20 slices of tomato etc.

places, usually truck stops, use those as advertising gimmicks. The
ones that bug me are all the fast food joints now coming out with
their 3,4 pieces of burger plus bacon plus BBQ plus French fries, plus
fried onions plus tomatoes, plus lettuce and various sauce and other
condiments. Those kind of burgers seem to be all the rage now. And,
no, it isn't a Guy Fieri thing. This is eateries in competition with
each other, trying to out gross each other. IMO those things are
disgusting.

Yes, we were watching Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives yesterday.
I wasn't paying a lot of attention, but I think they had a burger
topped with a slab of fried bologna, and another one topped with
boneless fried chicken. We looked at each other and said,
"Oh, hell no."

Sliced raw onion, lettuce, tomato, and maybe mayonnaise.
No cheese for me. Fried onions are a nice change of pace once
in a while; then I omit the lettuce and tomato.

Giant burgers are the least of it. Sweetened beverages are
a huge part of it. Cheap food is rich in empty calories, and
we all love a bargain.

I had a big burger yesterday. Not a real big burger, just a little under 4oz. I couldn't quite eat the whole thing.

We like a good burger , but don't go out much to FF places . We
prefer our home made , ~6 oz grilled patty on a home made bun with the
usual suspects , mustard , ketchup , onion pickle lettuce and tomato .
The one place we do eat a burger occasionally makes 'em just like we do
at home , but theirs are a little bigger . And their fries are much
better than mine .

That's an interesting idea. I'd add fruit to the meat to tenderize it - like the Korean used to do. It'll be a bul gogi burger with the fruit added to tenderize chopped meat. You can use fresh pineapple, Korean pear, or kiwifruit. I'll have to make one of these - thanks.

If you use fresh pineapple, you have to be careful of how long you let it sit or your meat will turn to mush. Canned pineapple is a safer choice for hamburger.

Ok here goes nothing......

Well yes I used fresh pine's I had just bought three of them, they
were on sale at walmart for 1.96

I have one of those pine' corers where it cores but also cuts the
pineapple into a thin spiral. Well what it does is leave a good bit of
fruit all alone the inside of the skin so I scrape out what I can and
I use that in my different recipes, like the burgers, or pizza, or a
ice cream treat, or pancakes, or pine' Mcgriddles, or what the hell
ever. The rest I cut into rings or half rings and partially dehydrate
some and fully dehydrate the rest....

Now I see what you meant when you said it would turn to mush, because
a small part of it did...

Oh the burgers I used a rolling pin and made them really thin so they
froze solid real fast (couple of hours)...

anyway I made one burger and Oh DAMN it was so good... the best slider
ever!!!! I am about to go make another, maybe 2 more they are so damn
good... I think if I turn the heat up a little more they will cook
faster and they wont mush up I hope. the last ones only took about a
minute a side...

My ex got one once. His intent was for us all to share it but Angela and I
wanted no part of it. It took forever to cook and was topped with stuff like
fried eggs, pineapple and all kinds of sauces. I know there was more. Can't
remember what. It looked and smelled disgusting. He wound up having to eat
it with a fork then complained that he couldn't pick it up and it was so
large that he couldn't get everything in one bite. Most of it went uneaten,
he wound up being covered in sauce and I was out $24.

For some reason, big food appeals to some people. Usually men. He loved big
steaks too and wouldn't order a steak that he considered to be too small. I
remember my dad telling him, "Just order two of them!" His reply was that it
wouldn't be the same.

Ok I do know what the problem is and I do know how to fix it...

The problem is the water comes out of the pineapple and turns the meat
to mush... The way to fix it is just use partially or maybe fully
dehydrated pineapples....

That might fix it. The reason it turns mushy is because the enzyme in fresh pineapple breaks down the connective tissues in the meat. Pineapple has been used in Hawaii to tenderize meat for quite a while.

Dsi1, speaking of pineapple, have you seen the new (to me, anyway) video showing how to eat
fresh pineapple without cutting off the entire exterior or using a corer? You wash the outside of it
first, just in case it isn't clean, and then slice the bottom off, and then choose the segments one
by one, to pull out/off, and eat them that way. The woody core stays where it is, and the little segment
nub you use to pull it out/off, can be discarded. It was one of those things that brought me, "Why didn't
I think of that?"

What the fuck are you talking about? The myth about women cutting off

Dehydrated pineapple will work fine. The processed pineapple won't have the active enzyme that fresh pineapple has. Other fruits that can be used to tenderize meats would be Korean pears, kiwifruit, and green papaya.

How long were they stranded? Most fruits and vegetables have some sort
of a growing season, so ripe fruit would only be available for a limited
time.

Well, I got some ideas of my own: chopped up chuck mixed with fresh pineapple, formed into a patty, let set for 10 minutes or so before frying up. It could be pretty tasty with an awesome mouth feel. Thanks!

There is an upside though. With all the burgers sold, the price of
leather goods is more affordable than in the past. Lots of cow skin to
make car seats from.

We have a great life in the world today, but there is a cost for it.

Also with wet food. They just don't drink as much as would be good for
them. It's not me saying that, but vets. I don't know why you have a

That's true. When I was younger leather goods were extremely expensive.
Forget about a leather couch or chairs unless you had money to burn.
Around the time that McDonald saw massive expansion they started to
become much more affordable. It is not much more these days for leather
furniture than it is for fabric. Back around 1970 I spent about $300
for a really nice 3/4 length leather coat. My son has it and wears it
wears it. It was an arm and a leg for me at the time but it has lasted.

Same here. In real life I certainly would easily finish that one
burger no problem but I would have saved a second one for much
later like an evening snack or even for lunch the next day.

> At home, my burgers are generally 4 oz or less. No fries.

My homemade burgers are between 2-4 ounces, with bun and all the
works and no fries. Just one burger at a time and usually with
some side. I rarely make fries at home. Last time I deep fried
was...(?) It's been so long I forget now. Only once or twice a
year. When I do though, I'll deep fry for a few days in a row.
While the oil is fresh I'll do a few favorites like onion rings,
chicken livers, corn fritters. Maybe a few more things. After a
few times, I'll toss the oil and not deep fry again for another
long time.

I don't snack in the evening, and I'd be unlikely to eat a leftover
burger at all, but I take your point.

After a half-pounder for lunch, dinner would likely be a bowl of
green beans, or maybe a salad.

I might have coleslaw at home as a side for a burger. I don't deep
fry at home, ever. Restaurant meals provide more than enough deep
fried food for my needs.
