I started a thread complaining about not being able to buy dry coconut pecan
frosting mix anymore (I used it in a whipped cream frosting). Well, I decided
to e-mail Pillsbury and Betty Crocker to see if they still made the product.
Pillsbury e-mailed me a brush-off letter about how sorry they were that I was
missing the mix but they had quit making it and that was the end of the story.
Betty Crocker contacted me with the information that they still sell the boxed
frosting mixes directly and here is the number. 1 800 233 5780 x994. They
also sent me a number to request order forms. 1 800 328 6787. I ordered a
case (12 boxes) and plan to dole them out to family members when they are
really nice to me. :)
And I am now a faithful Betty Crocker customer. Pillsbury can forget it.

Thanks for the phone number, Melissa! Maybe if enough of us ordered the mix
they'd put it back on the market. I plan on ordering some. How much per box was
the mix? Just curious, it doesn't really matter, I want some!

Thanx,

Linda

Just out of curiousity, what made it a "brush-off letter" instead of
just "a letter?" It sounds like they were trying to be nice.

The price was about 2$ a box. Seems high, but like you, I wanted some so I
ordered 12 boxes.
Good luck, Melissa

I suppose I was being too sensitive (lack of frosting = low blood sugar?!?) but
the wording of the letter was not encouraging or helpful. To be honest,
Pillsbury probably was not the original brand I used to buy anyway. Yes, they
were "nice" to respond at all. I stand corrected.

Pretty sure we can't tell you either as we have no way of knowing what your
mom made or what a dry frosting mix is. Why don't you just buy a can of
whipped frosting if whipped is what you want?

There used to be a marshmallow type frosting that was made from a dry mix

My mother used to make a 7-minute frosting that we loved. However, hers was
made "from scratch," not a mix. She constantly stirred it in a double
boiler until it reached just the right consistency, then she "topped" it
with toasted coconut after spreading it on the cake. Yum!

For the record, I never once even considered sleeping with you. And
you know that. You're the one who somehow got the idea that I was
going to move in with you - and you posted that to RFC just out of the
total blue.

After having met you twice at casual austin.food gatherings 2 or 3
years ago and not giving you any indication that there was any sort of
romantic interest in the least, you somehow twisted that into MY
MOVING IN WITH YOU?

That was just way too Psycho for me. I sat there at stared at the
screen for at least 15 minutes wondering, WTF? That was just way too
spooky. I've met weird, semi-psycho women before but you win, hands
down. Mapi of austin.general still holds the male title, but at least
he announced his psychosis right there lying on the floor of the bar
at B.D. Reilly's rather than romantically obsessing over me for 2
years.

Needless to say, you need to come to terms with what happened and why
your mind works that way and stop making up excuses for your fixation
and disappointment before we become the next Yoli and Michael. I'd
prefer you use a sniper rifle on me from a few hundred yards away.
There you go - a reason for you to buy yet another gun and ammo.

And Jeremy, I was just tired of your decade of bullshit and visions of
grandeur about all these things you're "working on" or have not done
in the past. Even posting a call for meetings with imaginary people
about imaginary projects of yours at "the normal time and place", as
if you are somebody important with a life. I'm pretty sure you're
manic depressive mixed with habitual liar.

Sorry I don't fit either of your Ideal Psycho Pal Profiles.

Yes, that describes the 7-minute frosting that my mother used to make. She
stirred constantly and watched to get it to exactly the right consistency.
Done correctly, it would remain soft (and delicious) on the cake. If it was
overcooked, it would form a crust or "shell" after a few hours.

It doesn't. Brooklyn made a comment that his dry frosting mix is powdered
sugar, which has nothing to do with the frosting mix that makes fluffy
frosting, he was just stating what he used, then Graham said powdered sugar
and water which I said was nasty, and of course Janet UK had to add her
usual catty remark, and it went on from there.

To me frosting a well baked cake is a garnish... I think a light
dusting of powdered sugar is the mostest with the leastist. When
served a heavily frosted cake I scrape off the frosting, then if the
cake is awful I don't eat it... heavy gloppy frosting is what people
do to hide crap cake.

Lemon juice? Glaze? Who is talking about glaze? Fluffy white
frosting. Sorry, I don't have a recipe but it certainly wouldn't have
lemon in it. Maybe you're thinking about a glaze for a pound cake or

Thread drift. Sheldon is the one who said that good frosting is just
powdered sugar and water. I said that was not frosting but glaze. And when
I make glaze I will put fruit juice in if I have it. Apple juice is
excellent in the glaze for apple dumplings. I have made vegan, baked ones.
They are really good but they do not keep at all nor do they freeze well.

That all sounds so good, and that cake would be hard for me to pass on. Have
a great time and enjoy.

Doris, that cake looks beautiful, you have one lucky MIL, I hope she
enjoys her birthday dinner. We are also having baked acorn squash
tonight, along with roasted chicken, cornbread dressing, gravy,
cranberry sauce and chocolate pie (I made the pie yesterday).

I like the powdered sugar dusting... says good cake... heavily frosted
cakes say crap cake.

The cake was just "okay". I was looking for that lovely jammy swirl,
but the jam pretty much just sunk to the bottom (which ended up as the
top). And the amount of jam called for in the recipe seemed to be way
less than what shows in the photos. The whole thing was a little dry,
too.

Oh well, MIL liked it, and that's what counts.

But Doris, where's YOUR cake, that's a cake site anyone could've
lifted off the net.

Fer cryin' out loud, not everyone wants to take pictures of food. In
fact, not everyone owns a camera unless you count the crappy ones in
some cell phones. Get over it.

Yep. Gotta have something to tear down.

I don't know about the wannabes on FB but he's the only person on rfc
who demands pics and then rips them apart. As if he's some sort of
photography expert.

I like frosting made with cream cheese and butter both. Luckily for me
this is a rare event. :)

Lemon juice and powdered sugar is better. No flavor but sweet is
pretty blech, if you ask me.
