Someone in this house likes the little cans of pears to eat with cottage
cheese. I normally buy them at Albertsons but two different stores were
out. Totally out. They had other sizes of canned pears and the small cans
of all other fruits. I remembered that I had bought some at Big Lots. I
went there today and they did have them but in heavy syrup. The eater
prefers in juice or light syrup. Other stores such as Walmart do not carry
the little cans. Yes, I know I could buy other sized cans or the little
plastic cups. And I have. But this person wants the little cans. Have you
seen these in your area?

If you'll tell me what "little" is (how many ounces), I'll look when
I grocery shop tonight.

If you mean canned pear *halves* that can be stuffed with cottage
cheese you won't find them in small cans. Walmart has diced pears,in
small cans:

She says "this person" won't accept anything other than the little cans.
This "person" is old enough to shop for herself. She has a car. If
she wants little cans of pears let her drive from store to store to find
the specific size of canned pears she wants.

There's no way she would actually open a larger can of pears and store
them in the refrigerator. There is always a reason she can't or won't
do something.

Likely the "person" wouldn't eat them if they came from a larger can and
were put into a different container. That would make too much sense.

It makes too much sense. Heaven forfend you buy a larger can and then
break it down into smaller portions. There's going to be a reason it
won't work.

Sorry but her daughter is not a Princess. I never would have told my
mother: I won't eat that unless it comes out of a smaller can. Really?!

Why doesn't this "person" shop for her own food? She has a car so
there's no reason why she can't also do her own grocery shopping. Maybe
if she didn't have Mommy running all over town looking for those tiny
cans of pears she might learn something. Such as: You don't always get
what you want.

She might even learn how to cut up and eat a fresh pear.

Remember those special small cans --not flattish like tuna-- labeled
"diet", back in the 60s-70s? Turns out the incredibly high price
(2X-3X) on those things was due to the cannery having to literally
build the can run, each yr, then tear it down. So few were actually
run, it was an inconvenience to have this short run diet thing set up,
permently.

Know what the "diet" part of it was? They turned off the salt
dispenser.

No...have not found them or want them.
Why not tell your anonymous person to buy his/her own cans of pears and
make your life less complicated. You should learn to say NO or I can't
find them and make it final? You are never going to satisfy everyone
in your home and especially those anonymous ones we can't identify
but who live there with you apparently.

Thanks! I usually stock up when they are on sale. And a large can would
just be a waste of money in this house as they are eaten sporadically. It
would be like when I was a kid. Open a can of pears, put the rest in the
fridge and by the time you want them again, they are moldy. Plus my fridge
is so small that I don't like using it for leftovers that may not be eaten.

answer is "tough crap, this is what they have, take it or leave it"
Don't want the larger size? Great, you get nothing and I save a couple

If you prefer to spoil your family and give them every whim, that is

No. That's not it at all. Same scenario as when I used to eat canned
pears. If I were to buy a larger can, half more more would be tossed out.
Why? I don't like pears enough or want them often enough to eat the whole
large can before they go bad. Same situation here. Sometimes someone wants
a little can of pears. And sometimes that person needs to take the pears
with them. They are perfectly portable that way. Eat them and dispose of
the can.

Nobody in this house wants to be bothered taking a container of something
somewhere and then bringing the container back home. You are free to do as
you want.

I don't understand why people here are so judgmental about things.

You should be asking YOUR STORE what THEIR issue is getting/keeping them in
stock, not wondering what OUR pear situation is,as if there is some small
can of pears conspiracy going on. You may be able to figure things out,
but this post says otherwise. If I couldn't all of a sudden find a common
food like canned pears, I sure as hell wouldn't ask RFC first. Ridiculous
attention seeking at its finest. Ask your grocer why they aren't stocking
them!!

For the record, I never once even considered sleeping with you. And
you know that. You're the one who somehow got the idea that I was
going to move in with you - and you posted that to RFC just out of the
total blue.

After having met you twice at casual austin.food gatherings 2 or 3
years ago and not giving you any indication that there was any sort of
romantic interest in the least, you somehow twisted that into MY
MOVING IN WITH YOU?

That was just way too Psycho for me. I sat there at stared at the
screen for at least 15 minutes wondering, WTF? That was just way too
spooky. I've met weird, semi-psycho women before but you win, hands
down. Mapi of austin.general still holds the male title, but at least
he announced his psychosis right there lying on the floor of the bar
at B.D. Reilly's rather than romantically obsessing over me for 2
years.

Needless to say, you need to come to terms with what happened and why
your mind works that way and stop making up excuses for your fixation
and disappointment before we become the next Yoli and Michael. I'd
prefer you use a sniper rifle on me from a few hundred yards away.
There you go - a reason for you to buy yet another gun and ammo.

And Jeremy, I was just tired of your decade of bullshit and visions of
grandeur about all these things you're "working on" or have not done
in the past. Even posting a call for meetings with imaginary people
about imaginary projects of yours at "the normal time and place", as
if you are somebody important with a life. I'm pretty sure you're
manic depressive mixed with habitual liar.

Sorry I don't fit either of your Ideal Psycho Pal Profiles.

No. The deal breakers would be the price and the fact that those are very
messy to open. They used to sell them at Rite Aid. Not sure if they still
do or not. In trying to get the seal off of the top, the juice goes all

Again. I only want the small cans. I do not want to buy a larger can and
throw some out. I will not put any in the fridge. That would only lead to
more crap in the fridge that will eventually go moldy and need to be thrown
out. You can do whatever you want in your house. I didn't ask anyone to
solve anything for me. I specifically asked about a certain size of can.

If I wanted to, I could buy giant cans of everything at Coscto! I don't
want to.

Well then you don't get out much. You can get cottage cheese here in 4 oz.
and 8 oz. containers. I normally get a dozen of the 8 oz. at a time at the
business Costco. Yes, they take up room in the fridge but they are much
cheaper to buy this way and they usually will get eaten before they spoil.

Right. Like I said... It's Knudsen's here. But that's not what I buy. I

Like I said... I buy the 8 oz. Darigold. And you can fit the can of pears
in there, if you take a few bites of cottage cheese first. Sure, the pears
will be sticking up, but totally doable. Or... You can be totally
inventive and put some cottage cheese on your fork and then spear a pear.
Yes, the eater of this concoction uses a fork for it. Not what I would do

I use that term all the time.

Lucky you. My mother was in charge. If I didn't like what she bought,
I lumped it.

What's desirable about being a Princess?

Unless you are born into royalty in some country that applies, the
term "Princess" in the USA only means (to me) a very spoiled little
girl who has always gotten her way.

I get the feeling everyone who lives in Bothell took the short bus to
school. She has a vast array of stores to choose from yet no one who
works in them ever seems to be able to answer simple questions.

I just got back from shopping, and there were no 8 1/2 ounce cans of
pears. There might be a temporary shortage because pears aren't in
season yet.

At least it's not "The Ballad of Gilligan's Isle".

When I get an earworm, I can usually dispel it by
mentally playing "Don't Fear the Reaper", although
my husband has better luck with "The Green Berets".

The majority of the stores here were either Safeway or Albertsons. I can't
remember now who bought them out. Some recently became Haggen and some
became County Market. Still, apparently too soon to tell if they will be
better. So far still at the stage of having mostly the same merchandise but
less selection and higher prices. One is going to be PCC which is a local
chain, similar to Whole Foods but smaller and IMO, better. The other? I
was told that it would be the new, lower priced, smaller Whole Foods but
some are holding out hope for Trader Joe's. Still others are saying we will
get both when they knock down the tiny strip mall behind there. What will
become of the seemingly striving cake decorating store is beyond me.

At any rate, because of all this nonsense going on, nobody seems to know
which end is up. At the one Safeway, they didn't even tell customers that
they were closing. I only read about it on Facebook and got there on the
last day of business. Somebody wrongly posted that the whole store was 80%
off. It wasn't, although a few things were. I wound up buying a few things
I wouldn't normally buy, just became they were cheap. Like a cake mix and
some key lime juice.

Word is that they are building a new, larger Safeway up the street by the
Lowe's and the giant church. If this is the case, then I imagine they will
also close the small, old Silverlake one. Neither of those two locations
seemed to do much business and there seemed to be a lot of shoplifters and
other crimes at Silverlake.

So while you might have one or two stores that are stable, what we have here
is a big old mess! I will be going to QFC later because they are the store
with the big soda sale so I will look there. I don't go there often because
of the high prices, or Winco because of the distance. Target doesn't sell
the little cans and neither do the organic type stores.

Thanks! That could be too. Fresh pears are also hard to come by. Not much
of a selection and not necessarily good.

My one pear tree produced nothing this year. The other has a ton but I
suspect that by harvest time, the fruit will not be edible due to the
drought. I did water it a couple of times but we are now facing extreme
water restrictions to the point where they may be shutting it off entirely
for a few hours each day.

We just broke another record for heat. The most days in a row past 90
degrees, And still no end in sight. I do think I am adjusting to the heat
now. It's 76 in the house and I feel chilly.

Oh man, Julie. This simple question really backfired on you, didn't
it?
I'll be at the store tomorrow morning and will take a look for what
it's worth.

Keep in mind though, you provided a ton of messages for this ng last
night. I love it! hahah

Holy crow! I think she's on to something, my store had no small
cans of pears!! Of course, they had almost no small cans of fruit
at all. I guess it's not a pear conspiracy after all. My store just
hates small fruit cans.
