Well for starters , how about the dining scene in Tom Jones?

Another dining scene, tho I do not know if it is top 10 worthy is the
first dinner in a movie called "The Last Supper"

order:
Babette's Feast.
Lamb and cherries in Le Boucher.
Eat Drink Man Woman (cooking, anyway)
The meal from hell in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
The perpetually interrupted dinner in Discreet Charm of the Bourgeosie
The diner scene in When Harry Met Sally
My Dinner with Andre (of course)

A favorite dining scene of mine was from The Birdcage. And Fargo
probably had more eating scenes or references to eating than any other
movie I've ever seen.

Monty Python's The Meaning of Life, Terry Jones and Terry Gilliam
(1983). Is there anyone who hasn't already guessed which scene I've
chosen from this movie? It is, naturally, the one in which the grossly
overweight Mr. Creosote (Terry Jones) eats himself to death in a very
formal and rather snobbish restaurant. After consuming a huge amount
of food and literally inflating with each successive course, he is
reluctantly tempted by the waiter (John Cleese) to consume one last
tidbit. This proves too much for Mr. Creosote, who explodes
(literally), showering the restaurant and other diners with half-
digested French cuisine, a sort of culinary version of John Hurt
giving birth in Alien. Python sketches are always gloriously silly,
but that silliness is generally used to make a point. The point here
seems to be not just the gluttony of one person, but the fanatical
addiction to consumerism—and the vulnerability to incessant
inducements to comsume more, more, more—of Western culture. The scene
is an illustration of suicide by overconsumption. Whether you find it
funny or offensive, once you've seen it, you are not likely to forget
it anytime soon.

"91/2 Weeks" comes to mind....also, Nureyev's "Valentino". There's an
Oldie! I dont know how sexy the real Valentino was, but if he was HALF
as hot as Nureyev was AS Valentino...I can see why women commited
suicide when Rudy died.
The Tango following his leaping onto a dining table laden with dishes
ending with his delicately tipping a plate of food into a gangster's
lap...then taking the gangster's girl into his arms for an unwilling
Tango...is a heart stopper.

"Home fo the Holkidays" has a great Tanksgiving dinner scene.

I wondered how long it would take before someone mentioned Mr. Creosote.

A real classic comes at breakfast, when Cagney squishes a grapefruit on
Mae Clark's face in "The Public Enemy" (1931).

My favorite restaurant dining scene is from Bob Giraldi's "Dinner Rush".
Danny Aiello plays Louis, the owner of a NYC Italian restaurant started
by his mother but with the kitchen now run by his son who has become a
great success with the yuppie/fashionista crowd with his tres foux-foux
creations. So, when Louis, sitting at a table with one of his old bookie
colleagues, gets served something very creative and unidentifiable, is
asked how he likes it. In his wonderful, native New York Italian
accent, he turns and says, "It tastes like shit!".

This is probably my favorite restaurant flick- for reasons to numerous
to mention here. I also liked "The Big Night". Rent 'em both!

Hard to believe that it's 35 years old this year! A friend and I used to
watch it so much when it first came out on DVD that we became certifiably
*insane*...many I know can rattle off the lines, it's a "gay classic".

Before it became officially released on video we had to make do with kruddy
hand - me - down VHS copies...before that it was definitely a "Midnight
Movie" thang you'd have to see at a revival house.

Now it's shown on cable (Independent Film Channel...) as a matter of
routine, something that still amazes John Waters...back in the day when he'd
show it in certain places he had to make sure he kept moving two steps ahead
of the law, they'd shut it down for obscenity.

I remember Morely had that sweater with knives and forks embroidered
around the waist like the band on Charlie Brown's one shirt. My viewing
accomplice was shooting a film on anorexia and I whispered that she
should get Morely to host it wearing that sweater and we both got the
giggles, just a little too loud for the people around us . . .

Just off the top of my head...

Babette's Feast, Like Water for Chocolate, When Harry Met Sally (you
know which scene), Lady and the Tramp (Disney), Blazing Saddles (bean
scene), Cool Hand Luke, The Gold Rush (Chaplin eating a shoe).

And then there's a short film, Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe, in which
Herzog really cooks and eats his shoe because he lost a bet.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Werner_Herzog_Eats_His_Shoe

Here's a really obscure selection: Alfred Hitchcock's Frenzy. The film
is about a misogynistic serial killer, but it has a funny subplot about
the detective trying to catch him. There is a series of scenes showing
the detective talking about the case over dinners with his wife. She is
trying out fancy recipes, but she's a terrible cook, and he is
struggling to swallow the products of her work without offending her.

That's going back! I guess the butter scene in "Last Tango in Paris" doesn't
count.

How about the Indiana Jones monkey brains scene?

Its not so much a 'dining room' scene as it is a Royal Kitchens scene
but the 'pie throwing' scene in the Tony Curtis, Natalie Woods, Jack
Lemon film "The Great Race" ("all the men are hairy chested and all the
women double breasted") is hilarious.

I accidentally got to watching an 20 hour made for Korean television
drama called "Dae Jang Geum" (Jewel in the Palace) and got hooked, much
of it takes place in the Royal Kitchens of the 1500's Royal Court in
Korea. In Chinese with English subtitles.

It is where i got the idea of combining ground chicken and shrimp, and
some of the formal dining scenes in the film are choreographed as a
dance, the serving of the food to the court on formal occasions was as
much an artistic expression of a Korean aesthetic as it was a way to put
food on a table.

In literature, in a written, text based format, the description of the
Tea Ceremony (Cha no ya) in Clavells book "Shogun" is, imo, exquisite.

Yeah, I almost said that. But there *is* a dining room scene earlier in
the film where Jack Lemmon as Professor Fate attempts to eat with his
thumbs bandaged, and wackiness ensues. :)

What was it that Eva Marie Saint's character over-dubbed in the dining
car?

"I never make love on an empty stomach" is overdubbed with "I never
discuss love on an empty stomach".
