I don't know if it is true, but it is sed "midshipmen" ("Squeekers",
ages 13-15) usta skin, sell, and eat shipboard rats when regular
provisions became scarce. This aboard Royal British ships (HMS) of the
line during (and before/after) the Napoleonic Wars.

If you were starving to death, I daresay you would eat a rat. ;)

Squirrels are rodents. Hares and rabbits were classified as rodents
until about a century ago. Westerners eat all those, so why not
guineapigs?

They eat them in Viet Nam. The ones in the rice fields are supposed to
be better than your typical sewer rat.

We used to eat gray squirrel often as kids, but I wouldn't eat it now unless
it was a necessity.

Yes. In Ecuador, they raise guinea pigs for food like we raise
chickens.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with rat meat. It's tasty. Rats
just have a bad rap, that's all. Most of the Pacific islands are
swarming with those little ones. Not a thing wrong with eating
them....if you can catch them, that is.

Here in the US (mostly east and southern coastal areas, I think)
- Nutria are an invasive species and breeding like crazy. They
are large rodents and also very tasty. A very good source of
protein if people would just get past the rat association.

Same with dogs, cats, and monkeys.

I have no idea, I just know that they eat them around the world. My brother
had some in the Philippines when he was in the Navy, he said it was OK, but
greasy. Personally, I am not eating any of that unless necessity dictates
it. :)

Not very. Guineapigs are grazing herbivores. Rats are omnivores, and
reproduce at a far faster rate than guineapigs. They can't interbreed.

So can cats and dogs and hundreds of other animals and pets.

I'd rather eat a veggiburger.

Rats will eat anything whereas guinea pigs are herbivores.

Guinea pigs are like cows that you can keep in your pocket and use at a moment's notice. Their utility value is undisputed.

They, at least, are of a size worthy of eating.

I can believe that. My guess is that they'd be horrified at a full sized pig on a stick too. I had some pig on a stick at a wedding recently. Roasting it underground is a tastier way to serve pig and it's a lot less grotesque.

For real. Back when I was married, we had a pet guinea pig. The
most annoying animal I've ever lived with. Any little sound, even
a sneeze, and that damn thing would start screaming, "WEE WEE WEE
WEE." oh man. I hated 'Humphrey'. If I had only known that they
were food..... ;)

Mia however was my baby.

Hmmmmmm, I have eaten Guinea Pig in Peru, some time ago. They keep them in their homes sometimes running around, mine was not running around when I ate it. I think it is called cuy or cui, not sure of the spelling. The difference between that and rat ?? I have not eaten any rats that I know of so cant really say.
