Why can't there be 2700 kiwi growers in New Zealand? There are
probably 2700 soybean growers in North Dakota.

More worrried about Miche in New Zealand than the kiwi growers.
Besides for all I know, she may have kiwi trees growing in her back
yard!
Hi, Andy....An easy way to see where the food comes from (Produced) is
looking at the 'Barcode' first numbers....... The USA and Canada is from
00-13:
Now, New Zealand produce is 94: ..... Australia is 93: etc.... Here is a
handy chart of world-wide Countries Barcodes....

Kiwi fruit grows on a vine that they trellis. I saw it in New Zealand.
There is plenty of room for that many growers. No one stated how big the
plots have to be. The plots we saw when we were there weren't very large.

Interesting, but your bar codes might be set up differently. Ours
lead and end with a single digit and have two sets of 5 digits in
between.
Here are a couple of examples, both are California products

8 52282 00238 4

Sorry, but that is a common misconception - the barcode indicates who the
seller of the product is, not where is it produced. Some large companies
buy their barcodes at the head office level, and use them all over the
world. In other cases a company imports in bulk, then packages locally and
uses 'local' barcodes for foreign products.

This is a bit away from the current bar-code topic but has anyone seen
*yellow* Kiwi fruit lately? They tasted a little different, better IMHO,
but I haven't seen them for a year.

FYI, Andy... http://www.wikihow.com/Read-12-Digit-UPC-Barcodes
"UPC Barcodes are typically registered and used in the United States
and Canada and, therefore, do not indicate a country identifier."
Cathy posted this in chat... enter the entire 12 digit number with no
spaces http://gepir.gs1.org/v31/xx/gtin.aspx?Lang=en-US
We had them in N.Z. last year. They called them "Golden Kiwi".
Unfortunately I am very allergic to kiwi and didn't dare try them.
The rest of our group said they were delicious.
I've never seen them stateside.

They have been in Florida for at least 5 years. Pretty good
but I like the original green ones better. The golden kiwis
are pretty sweet and monotonic in flavor. But they are
around the US and should be available for you to try.

Thanks, Lynn, I'm fine.
Kiwifruit grow on a vine, and it's too cold for them in this part of the
country.
My uncle Barrie used to grow them in Christchurch. When the sap rose in
spring the neighbourhood cats would chew the vines and get stoned. It
was funny, seeing all these joed-out cats lying all over his lawn.
