Any special plans for this evening?? Cooking out? For those living
in the USA will you be going somewhere to watch the fireworks??

I'm staying in and if I want to see any firework displays I can watch it
on PBS. Besides, my neighborhood will be rocking all night with mini
explosions.

Here, it will be the other thick pork chop I did last night in the air fryer
along with the last small serving of roasted petite red potatoes. A
small, two-pound bag, of these taters will be on this week's shopping
list.

Having a cheeseburger, a Caeser salad, and some sherbert for dessert... very mellow day...

Currently watching "Breathless", still one of the most "modern" movies ever made... 64 years later...

I have been assigned a LPN as my doctor. She expressed some concern that
my A1C is trending upward. I told her that I have a ice cream drumstick
every night. She chastised me. Who cares? I'll be Ed's age in less than
two months. I'll eat what I want, even if it kills me.

We watched "Tremors" last night. I still have "Eating Raoul" saved to
keep the discussion on topic.

There's no city prohibition on fireworks there?

BTDT dozens of times.

PBS shows anything "live"? Besides, TV fireworks suck.

The trees around here are way too tall now. And they stopped
selling fireworks nearby since the City did the Manifest Destiny
thing and swallowed up the unincorporated areas (but at quite a
price).

Same thing here except it's beef and tater tots.

Naw, they like to state there are regulations and prohibitions but it's pretty
much ignored and useless. I keep thinking the fireworks at the Titans
stadium will soon cease but they've been going strong for over 45 minutes.
It sounds like thunder it's so heavy but it's just tons of fireworks.

Leo, the LOVELY Eva Marie Saint is 99 today, born on July 4th, 1924...

She is now the oldest surviving Oscar winner (Best Supporting Actress, 1954, 'On the Waterfront')...

She and Tippi Hedren (93) are two of the last surviving "Hitchcock blondes"...

She presented at the 2018 Oscars, still looking like a million bux...

She was married to the same man for 65 years, until he passed in 2016...

"A life well - lived"...

Now, doesn't that make you feel *young*...???

Strict here, but there is a loophole
Under Florida law, it is illegal to use exploding and/or flying
fireworks in Florida. That means shells and mortars, multiple tube
devices, Roman candles, rockets and firecrackers have been illegal to
sell or set off in the Sunshine State since 1941.

The loophole? If the exploding pyrotechnics are used to scare animals
away from a farm, they're fair game.

After today, the farms are clear of unwanted animals.

It ended here after an hour and 15 minutes, and they shot off a LOT of mortars.
Close to the end I did step outside onto the city sidewalk and got a glimpse
of several of them through the trees. Then I headed for my back porch for an
almost better view.

Supposedly, Nashville has the best and longest fireworks show of any city in
the USA. I guess that big property tax increase a few years ago helps pay for
this display.

All the sewer gas in China would barely sate her...

Nor the miasma from all the outdoor latrines in Africa...

I had a salad with feta on it.

Went to sleep at 9 pm with earplugs in, to dampen the sound of my
neighbors' fireworks.

The big fireworks show in Detroit was on June 26. Back in the
Stone Age, we used to book a dinner cruise on the river to watch
the fireworks.

There are good ways to go; diabetes isn't one of them. You might
go blind and/or lose a foot before you died.

Drumstick? Really? I suppose it provokes nostalgia, but I'd rather
have something good.

I've nearly lost my taste for sweets. Yesterday, I tried a tiny square
of carrot cake (about 1.5" x 1.5" x 0.75"). When I was done, I was
left with a vague stomach ache and no sense of satisfaction whatsoever.

them at the corner here but we didn't have any of
those going off last night.

often they will do a fundraiser through the chamber
of commerce or even take direct donations from people
and businesses because it brings in people and thus
fuels restaurant and bar business, etc.

We have pretty good fireworks shows here. There is one for the local

put on by local service clubs.

I had left-over soup... nothing exciting here yesterday (or today). The
further I go in life, the less I care for fireworks. I simply find them
annoying and distracting, at this point. I would have made an effort to
see them had Sophia of been with me. Since not, I did my best to avoid
them and try to sleep, although the obnoxious "mini-explosions" went off
into the wee hours of the morning.

A family member owned a crappy old houseboat, and one summer, maybe 8

show. That might have been the last fireworks show that I actually

Rather than getting a boat, perhaps you should just stand under a
cold shower, tearing up $20 bills.

The white-tablecloth dinner cruise was nice. It satisfied our
entire annual desire to be on a boat.

Cindy has an annual desire to be on a boat. This desire can be

To be clear, I have never been diagnosed with diabetes. The A1C is
trending to high-normal while I'm trending toward normal decrepitude and
extinction. Which will win?

I'm very late in replying. I grilled some fresh bratwurst and cabbage
wedges. Great combo.

I heard fireworks, likely from the beach area in the nearby Town of Port
Royal or perhaps Parris Island. By that time (around 9PM) it was
pouring down rain so I can't imagine there were many people there to see it.

Heh... for some reason, that sounds less fun. I almost bought an old
house boat that sleeps 6 several years ago. The old guy selling it via
the classifieds section of the local paper only wanted $4k. It was one
heck of a deal. Of course, you have docking fees, etc. The two huge
old V8 engines powering it required $200+ in diesel fuel to
drive/sail/whatever it to Pittsburgh from East Liverpool... so I decided
to pass. That, and some fiberglass rot around one engine that I didn't
know how to repair.

Many years ago a friend of mine bought a cabin cruiser. Dock fees at
that time were about half of what I was paying in rent, and that was
just for it to sit there. Then there was insurance. When you get a boat
like that your mileage is often calculated in gallons per mile, so any
time that you take it out for a short ride it's going to cost $50 or
more for fuel. If you are in a northern climate they have to be taken
out of the water for the winter. That means paying for the crane and
storage.

It is sort of like owning and boarding horses. There are enormous
expenses just to have the thing around, even if you aren't using it.

Fixing fiberglass is easy (though messy).

But in general, all boats are holes in the water which you must
throw money into. And also your labor, if you are not well off
and hire someone.

It's a constant drain on your very soul, and it never ends. You
made the right decision.

Hence the simplicity of tearing up $20 bills. The cold shower is
actually a sailboat simulation.

It's funny, but I hit another bad omen that same day. Right after I
went to look at the boat, we had a sudden heavy downpour. Everyone ran
into the (docked) boat, and waited out the half hour storm. My car had
over an inch of water in the floor boards, because I left the windows
down. A large tree fell blocking the single road out of the boat dock.
I called the city, and they said it will be 8 hours before someone's
out to cut up the tree. I some how drove my car up through the mud of
someone's yard back onto the main road.
