any idea what this really means? the closest I've come to a convincing
translation is "finest butter" - not sure what that means exactly, except
it's not what you want to use for frying eggs

still in Vienna - not sure if this is also a German phenomenon

thanks to anyone who can shed some light - the web is not helping much

It is one of the officially recognised quality levels - the highest in
this case - of butter in Austria.

Why not?

It is not.

dnx fr the info

I assume fine butter is intended to be spread on brot und kuchen which
are washed down with tee - just a wild guess

it seems that when in Wien, the intended use is *the* use

As far as I am concerned, the highest grade of butter is the default one
for any culinary use, whether the butter in question is Srahmbutter
(sweet cream butter) or Sauerrahmbutter (sour cream butter).

It seems, it is not at all clear that the name "Teebutter" has very much
to do with tea (Tee).
