I have a tall Black and Decker Easycut can opener. I have a VERY dificult
time postioning the can properly so it can be opened. If you have one too,
any clues? Hints?

How about an easy to use new one?

TIA

Some folks here recommend the Swing-A-Way can opener. Take a look at these
wall mounted models if you don't have the hand strength for the handheld
versions.

I bought this one when my husband complained the old one gave him
too much pain.

My only quibble with it is that the handle is longer than most cans
are tall, so you have to position the can near the edge of the countertop.

We have a swing-away and it works great.

Maybe you should buy bags and boxes instead of cans. Didn't you
recently ask us about can openers?

We had one I have no idea bran and it worked for years and years.
But one day it was difficult to get the cans lined up well, I guess it
was bent a little or something
So we bought a new one and it was just as hard to use and get the
cans lined up.
So I just got a hand crank can opener from dollar tree that cost me 1
dollar and I am pleased with it. It is cheap and a piece of crap and
most likely break in a few months, but I can just go buy another one
for 1 dollar.

I think the problem at that time were cans with the pull tabs to open them.

I have a side-opening one and will never go back to the older type as
it's so superior:-)

KenK, for decades, I have used a hand opener. It doesn't show the brand any more, you
clamp it into the lid, hold it tightly to the can, and then turn a little toggle with the other
hand. The handles are slightly vinyl covered, so it isn't as uncomfortable to use as it
might sound, unless you are opening a large number of cans at once.

These days more and more cans are pull tab... otherwise Swung-A-Way
works well. Except for the bulk size cans it's rare I need to use a
can opener. 99% of the cans I open are cat food, all pull tabs. Even
large coffee cans are pull tab, I remember when coffee cans needed a
key.... lots of cans needed a key; ham, sardines, even SPAM.

I don't know about that one. I got a giant one at the business Costco. It
works well for us but we have pretty strong hands.

I tried a side-open one and went back to the older type. It was
just much easier for me to position on the can.

Huh... HTF can you not know the brand of your favorite can opener, any
decent can opener has its name right on it, perhaps yours is the POS
"Made In China" brand from the 99¢ store.

believe it or not my main purpose in operating the can opener is to
open the can, not observe the brand of opener

Bruce, I thought Shel's comment was "can opener envy." ;-))

Mine might have had a name at one time, but it is so old, it has maybe worn off. I can't remember a
time when I didn't have it. It is light blue, which would have matched my kitchen in 1969
so it might be that old.

Mine is a KitchenAid but I believe the actual manufacturer is Swing-Away and
works flawlessly. The one I had before this one was a Farberware but it had
a plastic bushing which split and it had a lifetime guarantee. I sent it
back to them and they replaced it but in the meantime I had bought the
KitchenAid so the replacement was given to a neighbor.

When I was a kid we had a Swing-Away wall mounted opener and it worked
flawlessly as well.

Popeye, not everyone can afford the finest of instruments, which is what
yoose and the old mexican woman use.

Hell, some of us don't even have basements, dickbreath.

Popeye, stop whacking off! Yoose are going to make a mess in here. Can't
yoose get that old mexican Senora to give yoose a blow job?

A regular hand held will open a can like that. Just turn it the other way.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KF88Ar5omo

It does leave sharp edges on the can.
