I have an old Igloo Lunchmate Plus cooler from the 1990's it still works great, but I can't figure out how to take the lid off so I can clean the inside of the lid. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I love this cooler and it keeps my sandwiches nice and cool. I am a Carpenter and need to eat at work and I'm not always near a fast food joint. Thanks again

As far as I know the lid does not come off, just slides to the
left or right. Has your cooler been tumbling around in your
vehicle for the lid to be dirty?

I repaired another Igloo Playmate (search on rec.food.cooking), whose latch
no longer latched. To remove the handle/lid, just pry off the caps on either
side of the lid, unscrew the screws, and pull off the lid.

I don't think the lid does come off. I just use dish soap and a hose
nozzle.

I don't think the lids are intended to come off. You could damage it if
you pried the lid off, even though it could be done. I would simply
pour soapy water around the lid if it is dirty and then rinse.

Cheap Chinese JUNK! Not meant to be cleaned, meant to be thrown in a landfill and then further enrich the Chinese corporation that molded them by buying a new one!

Feel better?

I have a Playmate small cooler, larger than the
lunch size. Amazingly I've had it a good 30 years and it's
not junk. Made in China? Probably but it's still in great
shape and I see no reason to throw it away.

I wonder if it would fit in the dishwasher? My husband's igloo lunchbox is looking pretty yucky.

I don't know if that plastic could withstand that scalding
hot water or not. Maybe take it outside and try the garden
hose on it with the jet spray setting?

Igloo products are made in Texas, halfwit.

Or use a power washer if you have it.

I know, now. And thanked the poster for the education!!

Made me second guess when I recently bought a 5 gallon new USA made plastic bottle for my "new" 2006 Grand Caravan! But it does not look like the Igloo 5 gallon containers have a secure lid! Mine does! Very important in the back of a moving vehicle!

In article <7a6859d0-29ae-41eb...@googlegroups.com>,
Take it to a carwash and use the wand providing a carwash is available.
You will have to hold the cooler while soaping and washing, or the
cooler will just blow away.

2 cents.

You're welcome shit for brains. Next time do your homework or shut the fuck up. Preferably the latter.

Or, just use a hose with a pressure-wash attachment or strong sprayer
nozzle after adding hot, soapy water to the cooler and the flipped open
lid. You might want to tether it down because when the water hits it
the Ingloo Lunchmate cooler *will* go flying. Do wear shorts, too,
unless you don't mind getting wet.

(Thanks, leo, this is fun!)

The great thing about those old Igloo lunchbox size coolers is, they're
sturdy. They're also fairly inexpensive. My real advice is, if you let
one get so grungy you can't figure out how to clean it without a sonic
boom... you might just hop on over to a store and buy a new one. That's
my 2 cents added to leo's. We're up to 4 cents now. Any other takers? ;)

Wow, I didn't realize washing an Igloo cooler was so complicated. How
about this: Add some hot soapy water to it, wash it using one of those
sponges, rinse and let it dry.
