Somebody asked about storing garlic, and I was wondering if there are any
opinions on keeping garlic in the fridge. A few people mentioned that they
keep garlic in a cool, dry place, but does that mean that you shouldn't keep
it in the fridge?

I store mine in the fridge but find it sprouts rather quickly. Earlier
someone mentioned grating and freezing which is what I'm going to try next.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER put fresh heads of garlic in the fridgy.
Please! It impairs the taste and texture. If you only a have few heads to
store, invest in a garlic keeper...one of those cute little clay pots with
holes. That should keep in dark enough and well ventilated. Just don't
store the pot close to the stove or other heat source. I used to use such
a pot, but now I grow my own garlic and have too much for that. So I have
tie in it into loose bunches and hang it in a little closet near the cellar
door...thanks so much to my Sicilian great-grandfather for having built it
all those years ago. It's a pity I never knew him. But I digress...

Garlic is relatively inexpensve, available year round, takes little time and
tastes much better when freshly prepared as needed. What purpose is achieved
to stock up with more garlic then can be used within a few weeks?

Do you keep onions in the fridge?

Bulbs of garlic I would not but an opened jar of pre-crushed garlic
should be kept in the fridge.

Actually, yes, I do keep onions in the fridge. Maybe it's just a habit, but I
put all my vegetables in the fridge (garlic included).
