Greetings and Salutations!

I recently replaced my copy of Diet for a Small Planet, which was
absolutely falling apart. The new one I purchased, however, is the 20th
anniversary edition, and contains different recipes. I *thought* I had
checked all the recipes that I use and re-copied those that were no longer
found, but I missed one, and the old copy is long ago in the trash.

The name of the recipe was something like "Peanut Sauce with great
Possibilities" and contained peanut butter, garlic, maybe onion, milk
powder, soy sauce, honey, and hot water, and was made in the blender.
There are probably some other ingredients that I am missing. Suggestions
for this sauce was to have it with pasta and slivered almonds, or as a dip
for fruit. I know it sounds weird, but as a dip for apples, this stuff is
**FABULOUS**. I'm going to try my hand at re-creating it by trial and
error, but if any of you have the old Diet for a Small Planet and could
look it up for me, I would be forever grateful.

Please send a copy to me directly, as it's been a long time since I've
been able to keep up with Usenet groups...

many, many thanks,
stephanie

I have the 10th Anniversary edition and the only peanut sauce recipe in it
is Indonesian Peanut Sauce (Gado-Gado). It doesn't sound like it's the same
recipe but it still sounds good!

Indonesian Peanut Sauce (Gado-Gado)
Serves 6

2 T. oil
6 cloves garlic, minced
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 T. fresh grated ginger (or more, to taste)
1 tsp. red chili powder (or more, to taste)
2 T. soy sauce
1/2 cup tomato sauce
juice of 1/2 lime or lemon
2 cups coconut milk, low-fat milk, or soy milk
2 cups peanut butter

Heat oil and saute garlic and onion until onion is translucent. Add ginger
and cook 2 minutes. Add remaining ingredients and cook gently 5 to 10
minutes, being careful not to let the mixture burn. Serve it on vegetables,
grains or sauteed tofu.

For the best flavor, make the sauce a day ahead of serving time. It keeps
well for a couple of weeks in the refrigerator.

Took a trip out to the dark recesses of my garage. Here's the
recipe from page 235:

Peanut Sauce with Great Possibilities

about 1 cup

1/4 cup = 7 g usable protein
16-20% of daily protein allowance

Blend in saucepan over low heat:

1/2 cup peanut butter
1 small onion, grated
1 clove garlic, crushed
1/4 cup instant dry milk
1/2 tsp honey
2 tbsp lemon juice
2 tsp soy sauce
(Adjust honey, lemon juice, soy sauce to taste.)

Add hot water until the mixture has the consistency of heavy cream. (If
you wish a very
smooth sauce, blend the mixture in a blender with the hot water.)

This sauce may sound strange, but everyone I know who has tried it finds
it
superb. Great Possibilities:

1. Over spaghetti (with sautéed mushrooms--optional).
2. Over rice or bulgur (with added slivered almonds).
3. Over tofu, hot or cold.
4. As a fondue: dip whole wheat bread cubes in it.
5. As a dessert fondue: dip fruit slices--apple is out of
this world!

Complementary protein: peanuts+milk
