butter or shortening???

If a cake or cookie recipe calls for using shortening as the fat, can you
use butter instead?

Yes, but you might notice some differences in the cookies. Since butter
melts more quickly than vegetable shortenings, a cookie made with butter
spreads more. This means it will likely be flatter and crisper. It may also
cook more quickly since more batter is exposed to the hot surface of the
cookie sheet. So, the texture might differ slightly but then you get that
wonderful butter flavor ...hmm > > >
