I got a request for a dance called "Norwegian Mountain March". I found a
reference in a book, but not more in my DB:
http://www.dancilla.com/search.asp?BID=581&LANGU=EN
On google I could also find some CDs (
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=%22Norwegian+Mountain+March%22 )
but also no reference to a dance-instruction or history.

Does anybody of you know where to find a dance instruction and history?

Thank you

Mario

OK, found it:

Norwegian Mountain March
Formation: Threesome in a circle, each threesome forming a triangle.
Origin: A dance from Norway that represents a mountain guide leading his
two followers up into the mountains.
Directions:
A. All step forward (Stamp - R, Step -L, Step - R) 1,2,3
B. Repeat A with Left foot starting. 1,2,3
C. Repeat A and B three more times
D. With the same stamp, step, step, the man moves backward under the
arms of the two women while the women do the stamp, step, step in place.
1,2,3/1,2,3
E. Woman on the right turns under the man's Left arm moving with a
stamp, step, step, while the other two do the stamp, step, step in place.
1,2,3/1,2,3
F. Woman on the left turns under her own right arm, the stamp, step,
step movement continued by all. 1,2,3/1,2,3
G. Man turns under his own left arm and all face forward again.
1,2,3/1,2,3 (End in starting position with man in the lead)

Furthermore I found a reference in a book, but not more in my database:

About the history we couldn't find anything.

Mario, you probably had difficulty in finding the dance because it is a Danish dance.

I found the music and instructions in
"Folk Dances and Singing Games"
by Elizabeth Burchnell
published in 1909
It is listed as the
Danish Mountain March
The directions are pretty much the same as you have given.

I am sending you email with a midi I made of the tune.

The more interesting Danish mountains are in Norway.

Now that you mention it: isn't Denmark completely flat? :-)
