Yes, there will be a Bug Stomp in 1996! Finding a new location for
this year has delayed completion of our flyer, but we're ready now. So, if
you want to come and dance to Wild Asparagus in downtown Charleston register
soon because we have a smaller hall which will accommodate fewer dancers.
Due to space limitations we will not be able to allow attendance at
any individual events.
This year we will be dancing in beautiful and historic downtown
Charleston at the Stern Center Ballroom at the College of Charleston.
Wild Asparagus has been wildly popular at their two previous Bugstomp
performances. For those of you who are not familiar with them, Wild Asparagus
is a five-person band from western Massachusetts. Using their unique blend of
instruments, creativity, and skills, they offer a sensitive and powerful
performance. Since 1984, Wild Asparagus has been highly successful in bringing
their music to dances and concerts throughout the United States.
The heartbeat of Wild Asparagus is Ann Percival on piano, guitar, and
vocals. Ann's playing is highly inventive while still maintaining an irresistible
rhythm. David Cantieni, a woodwind wizard, pours forth lively melodies and
liquid harmonies on his flutes, tin-whistle, oboe, saxophone and bombard. George
Marshall is an accomplished English concertina player and also provides driving
rhythms on bodhran and bones. Stuart Kenney on bass is a dynamo of musical
energy. Becky Tracy's masterful fiddling is that rare combination of energy and beauty.
George also provides excellent instruction and calling for New England style contras.
Hot Frogs on the Loose is a relatively new band from Charlotte,
North Carolina. It consists of June Advincula on keyboards, George Johnson and
Kelly Lawrence on fiddles, and Brent Skidmore on percussion. Hank Morris,
who has called dances throughout the south will be calling with
Hot Frogs on the Loose.
