Sorry to put a damper on any holiday cheer, but the NY Times
today (Monday, Dec 29) had an obituary for Amanda Warrington
who died as a result of injuries from a horse trial last
September. Such a sad story. My condolences to family
and friends.

Lisa,

I saw this obit, how sad. Do you know any details about the accident?
I think I read somewhere that she was in a coma since it occurred.

In article <34a9144c...@news.idt.net>,

On the same day Amanda Warrington fell riding Advanced at Fair Hill, our
young trainer was riding our Connemara/Tb mare in the preliminary HT,
fell and was also brain-injured, taken to the same hospital Amanda was
in. So we had the sad experience of sitting in the neurological ICU with
the Amanda's family and her young husband Danny. It was a very difficult
day and they were a model for a family that pulls together in an
emergency. Danny had been close by during the accident and my impression
is he talked about her pulling the horse towards her in the Fall, but I
don't know for sure. Of course she was going Advanced and fast. For us
the ordeal ended reasonably quickly as Gretchen's injury, although
serious, allowed her to return home at the end of the week to recover at
home. She has been in rehabilitation for the last 3 months, but has now
returned to riding, teaching, and life, for which we are truly grateful.
But we have felt a kinship with Amanda and watched the news almost daily
hoping for something good. Her injuries were very serious and, we were
told by our trainer's boyfriend who is a radiologist and had an
opportunity to see the x-rays, her prognosis was very, very guarded. We
are shaken by her death as everyone in the horse world has to be. The
obituary appeared in the New York Times yesterday.

AW was taken off oxygen about a month ago - the family's decision to let
her go. They took her off food about a week later. After 23 days she
passed away.

I guess we sometimes forget that we don't all follow the same horse activities.
Amanda Pirie Warrington competed in Three-day Eventing. She competed at the
highest levels. Amanda finished first at this year's Essex Horse Trials in
the CCII** Division aboard her horse, Drizzle, which won her the Burton Cup and
the AHSA Spring Championship.
The following is quoted from Horseplay magazine:
"Three Day Event Rider Amanda Warrington, second at Fair Hill International
last year, suffered a life-threatening fall when her mount, Berlioz, tripped at
the third fence during the Fair Hill Fall Horse Trials at Fair Hill, Maryland,
September 20.
Amanda suffered a serious blow to her head. Se was put into a medically
induced coma to stabilize her condition...Berlioz was unharmed in the fall."
