while I await my Earl Grey Tea and Resse Cup/Orea break (my personal
version of caffe und kuchen) thought I'd share my aft's ride..boring
as it was <G>
the victim in the this case is a big ole line back dun mare...she's
just here for mailes and few more unfancy things and was progressed to
NOT jumping out of her skin at air wrenches and meeting 16 foot wide JD
cuttin machines around blind corners and waiting for noisy work trucks
to pass...
also,no matter how much she probably deserves it, the mare is NOT
to bite the Labrador, there is no need to leave at a trot and walking in
is preferable to trotting...dogs bursting from cover under our feet is
not a sign of the end times and ducks and chickens don't bite...
the gear I ride in is a simple french link snaffle and bridle
supplied by the owner...I use my Passier as the western roper I had
did not fit her well...I just drop the sturrips and go with it...a few
rides before she goes home I'll pop the western on her and remind all
the cues in it...but my seat and style are the same...
the reins are pretty long wide and split,so I end up riding with
my right hand generally in the box and the remainder I keep romal style
in my left hand (old habits are hard to break I guess) and in that same
hand little 14 inck englay riding crop...I don't use spurs until they
are really broke right...
thus far we have some basic rating from the seat in two gears
althought she is kinda like a semi truck to get the brakes gear
clicking in her head...I always remind myself "four steps to full stop
is plenty for this week"
that said it takes only a seat and lifting my hands out of the
box for a whoa and a bit of vibration and a seat cue for "come
back"...dunnno if that was from her woners or if i did it but that
shedoes it for "me" is a big deal...
I've also found that riding her every day out seemed to annoy
her...she was less calm and equitable than every other day...that may
well be conditing or annoying flies...either way if they ain't
listening you ain't training <G>
it may be that I change the program to two tiny rides in one
day and a longer leg stretcher another...but she'll have to let me
know...well my tea is done and so am I...

Mary

"The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And mailes to go before I sleep,
And mailes to go before I sleep."
Apologies to Robert Frost. ;-)

Best,

Well, the 'd' lives right next door to the 'f', so I guess that's
excusable!
:-D
Originally I thought maybe you meant "males" as in for stallion
service, in which case mucking up "ducks" would have made for
interesting reading!
Mary
I was wondering if you had added something "special" to your tea? ;-) JJ
I thought maybe it was a new training technique discovered by someone
named Dr./Mr./Ms./Prof. Maile?
