What do they equate that to in horse years? Is she in her 80s?
Happy Birthday Comet! May you have many more, and keep your teeth : ).

I saw an article on this a long time ago...Comet was around 21 and a
friend's mare was about her age now...26-27...I think it came out that Comet
was around 66 and my friend's mare was around mid-80's. So, that would make
Comet around mid-80's now.

Good question...I'll have to see if I can find that again. I have a good
one for dogs, but not horses.

> Happy Birthday Comet! May you have many more, and keep your teeth : ).

So far so good...she's worn down the fronts a little but otherwise is
OK...only missing one tooth and that was a few years ago now. Thx, JJ

That would make the Old Snout over 100 and the record holders up close to
150.

I don't think you can make a linear comparison.

The oldest horses get to be about 50. The oldest age at which a few humans
can still walk and feed themselves is around 100. That indicates a roughly
2:1 ratio.

However, at the other end of the life cycle, a foal can walk the hour it is
born and eat solid foot within days. It takes a human at least a year to
get to that point.

Then, a colt or filly is sexually mature between age 1 and 2, which
corresponds to 10-12 for humans.

No...just like with dogs. One dog year does *not* equal seven human years
as the saying goes. Dogs are like teens at the age of around 2 and full
adults at 3 or 4 - it varies by breed. Horses are similar...the years don't
relate at the same rate during the life span.

I'd be happy with 50 as long as Comet was happy with it! ;-)

Congrats! Happy (belated) birthday to Comet. (Sonny turned 21 last
Sunday.) Did you give her special treats and additional scritches? I
hope you both had a great day!

I actually made some signs for her so folks would know about the cupcakes I
made and left for everyone! The cupcakes were gone in like two days! ;-)
Comet was pretty "blah" about the whole thing but one boarder's little girl
made her a hand-made Birthday card that was SOOOO adorable. It's still
hanging on Comet's stall. Comet really approved of the card! ;-) JJ
