Baby's knee has now been injected with the most expensive special good
stuff, very high density. So she had 2ml of the Hyvisc, 1/2 ml of
depomedrol, and .25 ml of Amikacin in each joint. This should help clean
up her joint, improve the joint fluid, and provide a little touch of
antibiotic to ward off any infection troubles.
She gets to stay in today and tonight, hand walking tomorrow, and then
move to her small paddock turn out. We will keep her on the bute for now
(she's getting 1/2 a gram 2x a day). In a week, we should be able to
move her into light work (walking in good footing) and open up her
turnout space a bit more. Then we just play it by ear, see how she does.
We are going to start her on Adaquan as soon as it gets here (should
show up any day now).
And then, well, we just wait and hope that this gets her comfortable and
she comes around to light work with Carl.
Rain was a pretty good girl today, working on lots of transitions and
yielding, which she was a bit testy about. Square turns, halts,
backing--she wants to come off the aids for these sorts of movements. So
we just kinda plonked away at it and it got better and better.
OK, I am going to go tack up Belles and do some hacking around the farm.
I think I'll haul out my Western saddle--we have not practiced in
Western tack for a while now. :-)

I'm glad the babies are doing better. Have fun riding. Thanks for
the updates. :)

I can't believe how you keep it all together. Sheesh. I get one more
horse and it throws all my routine off. The first week I didn't ride
at all because I was redressing and wrapping Pixie's foot and getting
used to feeding her the extra food. I didn't jog much in the morning
either. I have not gone to a lesson since before I got Pixie even
though I still have 4 left in my package. I probably won't be doing
shows for a while unless I just go without the trainer. I just can't
afford everything.
Pixie and Axl have been living in the arena which makes it harder for
me to ride because I clean the poop (I don't clean the pasture poop)
and I need to make sure that Pixie will stay tied for the duration. So
far the latter is not an issue. She just watches us while she munches
on her fat feed (soaked beet pulp + omelene 200 + oil) and then a bag
of alfalfa for when she is done with that. So I did get a few rides in
last week. I even put a jump up to 3' and Axl treated it like it was
nothing. I was worried that since he hadn't jumped for a while he
would be chicken.
Tonight Pixie gets her feet trimmed (she has been sound for a week)
and front shoes and then she and Axl will be living in the pasture
which is what I wanted in the first place.
I was a little worried about taking Axl away for the trail ride on
Sunday so I put Pip (the mini) and Merry (the goat) in the arena with
Axl and Pixie. They have all been together before but it is always
interesting to reunite Pip and Axl. They are 2 of a kind and are rowdy
boys. Axl is so subdued around Pixie. And even with all the rucous
Pixie just stayed in one spot eating her hay just way to dignified. At
one point Axl started backing up to her (he does this to make her
move) and because he had been doing nothing but bucking and playing he
went right into a backwards bucking spree. Pixie just walked away like
it was no big deal. I just had to laugh at Axl. He is such an
adrenaline junkie.
Pixie did scream and scream when I took Axl in left in the trailer but
my husband did not complain to me so she must have stopped. I need to
ask him.
Anyway - it really has turned my world upside down. I can't imagine
how you do it with all of your critters and even a baby.

Glad to hear there has been good progress all around. I'll keep my
fingers crossed for Baby (and thus for Carl); sounds like she's
getting the best chance for a good outcome. Have a great ride.
