I got 10 images for myself, and I am having three pieces of art framed
up for me. I decided to go ahead and be bloody vain and get a bunch of
the portrait photos of me and Belles. Since my wedding photos came
down, I actually have zero photos of me displayed in the house--I
have a ton of the horses and me jumping, but in those it is All About
The Horse and I am small, secindary to the image, and mostly covered
in helmets/sunglasses/bodyarmor/etc.
I picked out a rustic, aged wooden pine frame for all three pieces,
since that will go with my flooring downstairs (pine colored laminate
flooring and oriental rugs); my other downstairs art is either
gargoyle and dragon figurines, cut glass, or rather stark art, like
Nagel's. I also have an old window which my ex mother in law turned
into a 6 pane mirror--very neat.
So. Art Piece #1 and #2 are of me and Belles. I have a fairly bright
off white, almost completely white, for the secondary matt; the main
matting is a dark blue-grey. It picks up the blue tones in the
portrait images well, and helps brighten them, since they have that
more diffused afternoon light.
#1 is a three image piece, arranged vertically, with a 4 x 6 above and
below an 8 x 10. The top 4 x 6 is Image 1656, the profile shot. The
large image is the sort of dreamy, looking slightly to the side of the
camera shot, 1632. Below is the more relaxed, candid shot with Belles
wrapping her neck around me while looking for treats in my hand and I
am looking down and laughing, 1646.
#2 is another vertical piece, with a 5 x 7 on top and a 4 x 6 below.
The larger image is me looking down my nose at Belles, 1631, and the
smaller image is the one where I have a *very* Eileen Expression on my
face, 1652. I make that face a lot, I think.
The largest piece, #3, incorporates five images of the horses
together. It was the hardest to organize! I have the same pine frame,
a more cream off white lower matt, which picks up the golden quality
of that morning light; the top matt is a pale blue-grey which picks up
the shadowed snow color really well. The piece is horizonatal, with an
8 x 10 in the top left and bottom right of the frame; on the top right
are two images of the girls solo, one a horizontal 4 x 6 and the other
a vertical 4 x 6. The vertical is the one in the middle. The lower
left has a single horizontal 4 x 6 of both mares. The images are:
Top Left 8 x 10, girls galloping with Moonlight on fence and Belles
coming towards the center (looks great with her coming down and
towards the center of the whole piece, really helps the eye), 918.
Next is Belles the Dragon, backlit and poised, snorting steam, 931.
The third image in the top half of the piece is a galloping Moonlight,
heading towards Belles and the other photo, 920.
On the bottom half of the piece, you have on the left side, galloping
towards the left margin, the girls together, image 928.
The final image in the piece is that *lovely* huge trot photo where
both are heading right across the frame, Belles in complete suspension
and Moonlight matching her stride slightly ahead and on the far side
of her, 921.
So. I nearly fell down dead when producing the credit card for this
framing job, but, I have not had nice art added to my house in years
and years. There are a number of weird holes in the walls due to the
recent reduction of the household members, so this will give me a good
reason to really shift my art about and work on the flow of my art (my
bedroom is all oriental art--cork and watercolor, old prints, hand
stictched framed embroidery, etc); I have photos and an oriental fan
in the office, and then it starts to unravel a bit in terms of Overall
Plan.
It sure was hard to pick out what I wanted to do . . .

Thanks for the kind words. Ya know, I'm a bit of a toughie and tend to
have a sensible attitude, so as long as I can hang onto my girls I
think I can pretty much cope with whatever.
If I actually manage to get a photo of the art pieces that looks like
anything, I promise I will post it! I'm really excited about it--the
end of the month is when it should be done. Woo HoOO!!! The last day
of classes AND my art!!!!
Eileen Morgan, Thrill Seeking Adventure Goddess
Heh! That's what I'm working on right now. Every year I co-teach an
art class at work. The best of the best goes up to a big, muckity muck
show upstate where politicians and the like gather for the week. The
artwork is done. Today, I start cutting the mats and framing. You can
realize significant savings if you do the work yourself. It just takes
the
initial cost for the cutting system (a few hundred bucks for a higher
grade
non-professional system). Worth it if you're going to mat and frame a
few dozen pieces each year. It's dead easy to do and the right mat(s)
and frame can really make a piece pop right out at you. Worth it if
you're
like me and you change room colors and artwork like you change your
socks. That reminds me, my living room has been the same color for
over a year (Ben Moore "baby turtle")! <gasp> Better get to work.
