Joyce, your post caught my eye. I don't really follow threads much anymore. There have been times when I've thought it best to unsubscribe. I stop in only occasionally to check on a handful of 'friends' I've made over the past 16 years here. Some folks like that other damn Ruth and of course Mary, Nancy, Joyce, Abby, Eileen, Tom(gone), Terry(long gone), Charlotte ... even John - tho he hates top posters. Some folks, I've met in person and I actually <gasp> like them as real, in-the-flesh, type people! Heck, I'd buy them a beer and I can't say that for all that many people these days.

Maybe I should switch to Facebook, or My Space or Skype and be done with the wreck.

Anyone else want to jump ship?

It's such a habit over these years. Maybe we need a new ng: alt.ex-rec.eq-ers [OT posts ONLY] :-)

There are some really fun, funny, and smart people here. I pretty much only post OT anymore. I just don't have the time to lock horns over the same issues over and over and over ... ... ... with people who absolutely refuse to open their minds or look beyond their own insecurities.

I love u guys - u know who u are: :-) [hug]:

No, and I would miss you if you did.

Or... filter topics that disgust or bore you... or people that do.

Hi Ruth... from one of the Ruth's, but I'm guessing you mean Ruth B as
"that other damn Ruth." LOL! IIRC there are 4 of us.

I don't know about completely, jumping ship. I've gone away in the
past and not even read the group for many, many months, but obviously,
I've returned.

Over the past several years, I've learned a lot from people here...
all of the Ruth's, JJ, Laurel, Cindi, Abby, Hunter, Jim Casey, Nancy,
Ben Turner (gone), Bill, Eileen, Maureen, Mary, Sharon, Stovall
(gone), Hasler, Betsey, Debbie, Sheila and *many* others. Even the
old crumudgeon (sp) (Terry, gone).

A one stop shop for learning about feed (all types), trailers,
tractors, trucks, tack, hooves, teeth, conformation, vaccines,
training, riding, boots, leg wraps, injuries and how to treat them,
diseases, illnesses, medications, OTC meds and remedies, blanketing,
rain sheets, etc.

Heck, I even learned about guinea pigs and goats! Not to mention
support when we lose a loved one (human or critter) or must make that
difficult decision about any one of our beloved furry friends.

Sooo, I don't think I'm going to go completely, away. You shouldn't
either, IMHO. Many people here are a wealth of information, like
yourself!!!

Ruth W. (One of the other ones.)

A group like this is only going to be as good or as bad as you/we let
it. Another group I'm subscribed to is wondering "what happened?"
currently -- and, beyond there being more defined groups for posters,
dealing with their locale or discipline, this newgroup had become a core
group of 5 or 6 who brooked no new ideas, took any question as being
"stupid" instead of someone new who really didn't know, didn't know
really how to find out, and basically became a cauldron of witches
(spelled a bit differently, even if not of the feminine sex) who got
their jollies putting everyone else down.

The Wreck is hardly that. If a thread goes on longer than you like,
takes a turn you don't like, whatever, either give it one more try to
say "To heck with it" and ignore the thread ... the beauty of subject lines.

Heading off to the four corners, finding some place others will go, want
to go, or can find will truly wreck what you've got.

It seems the old timers get tired, and newcomers go to WWW bulletin
boards. Many do not even know that Usenet exists, and many others
consider it boring.

What happened to Tracy Scheinkman and Teresa Bippert-Plymate?

What she said - I rarely read every post on any given day. I ride both
english and western, though more western these days (a lot more practical
for all day, don't know where we're going to end up, ramming through the
woods). There certainly are some folks here who think their discipline is
the one and only...in any field, horses, cars, medical, etc, etc, those are
the folks I don't take seriously.

After all, the original reason for riding was to get from point A to point B
better than you could on foot, with both you and your horse relatively
unscathed. Anything that doesn't in some way relate to that is possibly
interesting, but not necessary. No heartburn with those who *want* to spiff
up a way of going, or jump higher than anyone ever would when using the
horse for transport, or worry about where he holds his head, inside the
bounds of physical damage, I just don't take anything "decorative" as all
that important in the real world. Doesn't mean perfecting a trot isn't fun
for some, just that it really isn't a big deal to anyone else. So if a
couple of people want to spat about it, let 'em...I've got an ignore
function.
