I remember some time back, a poster asked for leads on horse related artwork
for her new house (or a room she was redecorating). She got some great leads
here. Now I am looking for the same thing. I want something sort of special
to go over the mantel in my great room. I would love something with an "old
world" sort of flare to it, but I'm not much interested in the foxhunting
scenes. I'm a little bored with most of them, although I saw one that I liked
alot. I'm not sure what I want, but I would love some color and something
interesting.
Anybody got any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
johdug-jen
My husband has bought the bulk of our furniture and artwork so I'm no help.
But welcome back and Happy New Year!
I missed you. :)

Check out www.lynnwade.com. Go to prints. Her giclees on canvas look just
like they are original oils... which means among other things you don't need to
put glass in front so you lose the picture in the reflections.

Happy New Year to you, too!
I guess I should try to find the old posts where the artwork was being
discussed.
Back to searching...

You say you want color??? Google Franz Marc. Color out the wazoo. <g>
I keep going back to his stuff.
If you like the stuff of Degas, Manet, or Gauguin, each has painted
scenes with horses.
There's 'The Horse Fair', by Rosa Bonheur. (That's hanging in my
kitchen.)
Or, for beautifully rendered barnyard scenes with horses and sometimes
chickens, pigs, etc. google John Frederick Herring, Jr. (JFH, Sr. did
more sporting scenes).
'Shoeing the Bay Mare', by Landseer is hanging in a bathroom. Who
needs a magazine? <g>
I also like vintage posters with horses.....circus, wild west show,
etc.
I'd love to hear what you end up with.

Googling, I found images of this painting that don't match!
This one is more common:

But I also found this one:

Keep looking. I believe that there are a few more as well. Back in pre Xerox
days it was not uncommon for an artist to make multiple versions of a
painting for sale.

I have never had problems in the past with receiving everyone's posts, but JC
Dill's post never showed up for me. I only read this because it was quoted in
PM's message.
JC, I have seen the "Horsefair" and it is one of my favorites. I have
considered each time I see it. It's hard to get the full effect looking at a
little picture on the internet.

Thanks to both of you for your input! I hope I haven't missed anyone else's
post.

You have to see the original, it's in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC.
8 feet high by 16 feet wide.....
Only if they allow you to drool. One of these days I'll have to dust
off and go to town. <g>

It will eventually.... AOL is coughing up posts from last week that we never
got.
