Event Results: Abernant Horse Trials Sept 2-3, 1995

Saturday was a beautiful day for Eventing with the temperature reaching the
low 20's C (low 70's F) and sunny. Rain Saturday night made for a few slip
in the grass Dressage rings and a couple of tumbles in the Stadium warm-up
area. Saunday started out much like Saturday but a brief thunderstorm rumbled
through part way through the Prliminary Champioships. I didn't see any real
effect of this apart from a decrease in the number os spectators around the
water jump where I was photographing the Event. (OK, I also noticed that
my camera started getting wet and the lighting wasn't as good but that's
beside the point!-)
The Event
Another fine Event! Lexie Cameron and Huw Llewellyn are to be commended for
their efforts, and for the efforts of their many assistants and volunteers,
in making this another exciting and enjoyable Event. They seem to be doing
their part in making sure word of this sport gets out to the Public. I
arrived at about 10:45 on Sunday, before Stadium or cross-country had
started and I was already parking way out in the middle of the field! A
local farm equipment company had loaned a tractor and hay wagon to ferry
spectators out to the back portions of the cross-country course.
The New Jump
Competitors who were at the July probably thought that that Event's
Pirate Ship jump had used up the imagination and creativity of the course
designers. Wrong! This Event featured a crashed plane (listed on the
course map as "Plane and Simple" ;-), complete with a manikin aviator!
I'm almost afraid to see what shows up next year!
