OK, these should work for anyone who wants to see, not just FB people.

Ireland was great--it was just my pal and me riding, which is a
benefit of going very early in the season. We lucked out with weather,
just a spitting here and there, but wore our rain gear every day. It
really cut the wind down nicely on the beaches and mountain tops. The
comments along with each photo ID location and whatnot.

I'll have to wait until I'm on a faster internet connection than I am
right now to really do these justice but the few I've seen thus far
look terrific. Thanks for posting them.

Ireland's one of my favorite places, though I've never ridden there.
Would you mind telling us exactly where you rode and what you thought
of the facilities?

Thanks again.

Cheers,

Tim

Thanks, Eileen. I've just looked at the first group so far and they are
really nice. What beautiful scenery. I'll save the others for later to
view at my leisure.

Most welcome! Sometimes shooting off the back of a moving horse works,
sometimes not so much so. :-) We got lucky with the weather, which
helped with the whole taking pictures thing.

I did this ride: http://www.ridingtours.com/horseback-riding/ireland-markree-castle-trail.cfm

It is based in Sligo. which is in the middle bit of the west coast.
Sligo is a pretty good sized town, one of the larger ones with a
population of about 25k. We stayed in a fancy hotel down town, a 15
minute drive from the Sligo Horse Center, which hosted the ride. The
horses were in good condition and well trained, management seemed
sensible, and the staff were all really nice people. I chose this trip
for several reasons: the air fare was really, really low when I booked
and it was in a beautiful bit of Ireland with a low overall cost
(although you have to do most of your meals on your own, so it is a
bit more than the base price might suggest--but what and where you eat
is up to you, so you can budget as needed).

I am lobbying for Wales next year . . .

Many thanks, that's all good to know. I know both Sligo and Mayo and
agree that the West is a wonderful place.

If you're ever in Dublin a day trip to the Irish National Stud is
worth doing, by the way.

I've been thinking about Wales, too. I almost did it a couple of
years ago when I was on sabbatical but a health problem intervened.
The place I was considering was Cwmfforest Riding Centre (AKA Trans
Wales Trails) which is right on the eastern edge of the Brecon Beacons
national park, and seems to have a good reputation:

Is there any particular place in Wales you're considering?

Some day ...

Cheers,

Tim

I've been in prior years. It's a wonderful stud, and I adore the
Japanese Garden.

Thanks. Looks terrific. That's actually in the same neighborhood as
Cwmfforest.

So many horses, so little time ...

Tim

Yes, the garden is wonderful, isn't it? For those who don't know it,
it's got signposts tracking life from birth to death. I was amused by
the sign for the "Gate of Oblivion," which is helpfully supplemented
by another sign reminding people that children need to be accompanied
by an adult (good advice):

The best part of the stud for me is that once you pay to get in you're
free to wander around at will. I had a long chat with little Indian
Princess (mom: Snow Princess; dad: Indian Ridge):

She was ready to follow me home but they wouldn't let me keep her ...

Cheers,

Tim
