We worked Westwind in hand yesterday. It was a real eye-opener for me!
Kass has been telling me that I haven't really been getting him supple -
that all I've been doing is getting in his mouth.

When Kass asked him to piaffe, Westwind threw his head up and tried to
barrel past her. She stopped that and worked on getting Westwind to give to
the pressure of the reins. What Kass pointed out was that when Westwind
gave to the pressure and she softened the contact, his head went lower
instead of popping back up.

It really made a difference when Kass asked for the piaffe again. Westwind
stayed right next to her and didn't try to push past her. He looked relaxed
and his steps weren't rushed. And when Kass had me take over at his head,
Westwind stayed with me, in my hand. Oh! So *that* is what a supple horse
feels like!

My baby is going to have a *nice* piaffe.
