MEXICAN MECCA : fact or myth?

I am interested in the following subject for conversational purposes
only. I am only attempting to satisfy curiosity about some things I
have heard a few recreational drug users say about the legality of
obtaining drugs in Mexico and bringing them back across the border.

I have heard that it is legal to purchase in Mexico pharmecuticals such
as hydrocodone, oxycodone, lorazepam, diazepam, and others such as
Dexedrine, Nubain, Xanax, and such things. I have further heard
that these are availible freely with a prescription from a mexican Dr.
(supposedly easy and cheap to obtain), and may be legally imported (to
US) in fairly large quantities via the prescription previously obtained
and that (goes without saying) the MExican Dr's script is just as good
on US soil as any other legitimate scrip for the drug (keeping the
owner of the script and drugs out of jail, hopefully). What are the
drugs commonly available, and common prices? Quantities? What is a
legal quantity of any one drug which might be legally brought back? How
many filled prescriptions might be legally brought across the border (
heard one person who has done it say that it was something like 18
seperate prescriptions x 3 month supply of each = shitloads of pills,
with the proper prescriptions, which may be brought thru customs and
even scrutinized by your local fuzz without any ill effects (like losing
your stuff) or legal repercussions (ahem... JAIL) to worry about.

I have also heard that the Mex. authorities have cracked down on this
practice, and that it is no longer so easy to get some drugs in Mexico
in some areas via this route.

I would appreciate some comments on this subject from someone who
knows, preferably someone who has been there and done that recently, or
perhaps a person who is aquainted with the legal/political situation on
both sides of the border. I would also be interested in hearing about
which areas/towns (etc) are most/least receptive and well stocked for
this sort of thing.

I would appreciate replies via email, or posted response, your choice.

DIsclaimer: the author of this post has no desire or intention to
actually go to mexico and do the things described in this article. Nor
has the author the desire to put in his body any legal or illegal drugs,
or any other
yukky stuff purchased legally or illegally in Mexico, Timbuktu, or
elsewhere. The author hopes and encourages that all you fine folks
should always humbly obey the word of our law and not do anything
dastardly which would make our great leaders angry. This post is
written and posted in solely in the spirit of
informal geographical and sociological research study. Further the
author belevies that there are ...ahem...other people...many other
people... who would be VERY interested in reading this stuff for
whatever reasons are about. Probably greatly more interested than the
relatively disinterested author of this post. SO help all those curious
people (not me!) out by answering this post. Dissemination of knowledge
is always beneficial to mankind.

I believe that you can obtain these pills with the perscription and you can get across the border but once in the U.S. it's a different story. If you get pulled over by the police and the search your car and find the pills then they will take them despite your dr's perscription from Mexico. Most likely you will go to jail too unless you can provide an American doctors perscription. Even though they are starting to crack down it is still very easy to do. I havn't tried it myself but I have heard this fr
om others.
