Hey all, I've been using high doses of codeine for a good year now, 400 mg
is a standard dose for me and I usually take about 6-10 per day, so I've
been quite into the stuff. I recently cut back from that dose and have
gradually weaned my way back to 2 doses a day and have just today parted
with my last bit. I'm curious as to what to expect fully, my basic
understanding is that I can expect your general opiate withdrawal effects,
being soreness, headaches, general nausea, watery eyes/nose etc. etc...how
long can I expect this discomfort to last? at which point will my body
begin to produce its own endorphines again and the ride start to go uphill?
Any other major withdrawal effects I can expect? The major issue that seems
to come about it the over-excitation of the locus coeruleus thus leading to
an intense feeling of "fight or flight"...but there's not much I can really
think of but to tough it out...now, I'm not claiming my withdrawal is going
to be comparable to heroin withdrawal, but I have no doubt that after such
extreme use for such a period I'll likely have some very negative
side-effects...I'm damn determined and from what I can see that seems to be
the primary aspect of quitting. Any help/links to information on opiate
withdrawal would be greatly appreciated, wish me luck :) it's going to be
difficult with the stuff available in the local pharmacy just down the
street. :)

Good for you man, it takes brass balls to do the cold turkey thing.
What will really help you most is a big bottle of xanax. The 2mg kind.
The worst part of this condition to me is the restlessness. Feels like
suffocation. These really help with that. Drink tons of water too .
Good luck brother.

Thanks :) it's surprising, but so far the major symptom I'm noticing is a
constant headach that tylenol doesn't even touch and I'm SORE...I feel like
I ran a marathon a day ago and my body is punishing me...it feels similar in
some ways, on a physical level to about 25-40 minutes after eating some
mushrooms and you get that incredibly uncomfortable "body buzz"
feeling...like something is just about to happen...I've always found that
extremely uncomfortable and this is like that times 5...ug...going to go try
and sleep, thanks for the advice... :)
