Ryan,
What you need is a faceplate ( I'd start with 3" size and a #2 Morris Taper
drive center. I know Craft Supplies USA sells these accessories and several
other companies do also. I would suggest you get together with your local high
school woodshop teacher and get some basic instruction about lathe safety,
operation, and where the nearest woodturning club is located. The shop teacher
will also have a list of suppliers.

Be prepared to get the woodturning compulsive behavior syndrome.

Ryan,

I think you have a faceplate already on the spindle. It is the rusty thing
that the aluminum piece is attached to. BTW, your spinlde is 1 1/8" x 8
TPI thread and also will accept a #2 Morse taper.

Additionally, I just bought TWO Oliver 159-H models. Haven't taken
delivery yet but am looking forward to turning on old, solid beasts. I'm
planning on a set of riser blocks so I can turn 16" or so.

Ryan,

My guess is that the aluminum piece is some turning project left over or
unfinished from the previous owner. It may have been a chuck built to hold
something particular. Why not try to find an experienced turner in your
area and show it to him or her ??
