The Record Lathes are good lathes, it sounds like you got a fairly good deal. I
wouldn't worry about it when you've gained some experience you'll likely want a
bigger and better lathe. But that Record will give you a lot of pleasure. I
personally have two Record Lathes: a CL-3-48 and a RPML-300. I've had them for
several years and have been pleased with their performance.
Good luck

I too bought a record DML24X from a neighbour who wanted to upgrade. I
personally believe that it is a good starters lathe. The only drawback that
I can see is the cost of record parts, they are very expensive so be sure
and shop around or make your own as I do.
Also think very carefully where you mount the lathe, if you mount it with
the tailstock end right at the end of your bench it will be possible to
exceed the 8.5 inch bowl turning diameter by sliding the headstock all the
way down to the other end. A kit can be puchased that will allow you to do
this.
I hope this has been of some help.

Thanks again.
