I have been using the bowl steady for about a month now and can say that is
reduces sanding time significantly because the tearout is minimized. I make
small lidded bowls (2"x6") with an interior reverse curve
http://www.saridakis.com/default_files/page0001.htm and have found that I
shaved at least 5 min off of my sanding time. I currently start at 150 grit
and if can make the additional improvement of shear scraping the interior, I
should be able to start at 240 grit.
I keep the steady by the headstock with the wheel assembly lowered when I am
not using it, and it takes about a minute to bring it into position.
I have concluded that it works well for me.

I kind of followed Herms plans, did a little adapting and the thing works
great. Took about 2 hours, including the trip to the sports store.
