I have 5 vicmarc chucks, and never thought there was a problem till my
father started to complane about his newest VM100 chuck. It seems that
when he trys to chuck up an 8 inch pen blank it will oslicate. It has
run out and will not drill properly. It only happens with the newest
VM100 chuck. Other chucks will not oslicate. he sent the bad chuck
back to Craft Supplies, and it was returned to him after they fixed it,
so they say. It still oslicates. Only one of his chucks is off like
this. Well I checked my 5 chucks and sure enough the newest VM100 is
off like his. My older chucks run true. I used an 8 inch long by 5/8
drill bit to check it out. I tried holding the drill in the jaws and
also in the inner dogs with the same result. It oslicates. This chuck
is about one year old, my father's chuck is only 6 months old. They
both have the new indexing plate on the back of the chuck. Maybe
they're the same run?
Does any one else have similar problems? and what can be done to
fix this run out. It's too late to complane to CS about a one year
old chuck. My fathers experence at returning the chuck meet with poor
results. I'd just as soon try and deal with it my self as opposed to
packing the chuck up and spending the money to ship it.
I've heard Stuart Batty complane at a demo. about a chuck running
out, but he said he would tackle that at a later time, and proceeded
with the demo. Wish he would of fixed it then and there.

Sounds like the back plate wasn't trued before screwing on the chuck. Dan

Curtis,

Contact Vicmarc directly. I'll bet they take care of the problem.

Hi Curtis,
I have returned things to Craft Supplies that were over a year old and they
accomodated me every time. This includes a 7 year old chuck which came with
faulty jaws. I just explained that I was ignorant of machined parts and it
took me a long time to figure out why the grip was faulty.
They also have a toll-free technical support number and they have always been
as gracious to me as I was to them.

Best wishes,
Richard

Thanks for all the advise with the chucks, I'm still looking for the
fix here at home. Thanks Curtis

Curtis have you considered it could be the spindle adapter on the back?
Perhaps swap one from another chuck (if it would fit, I don't know) to
check. One more thing, are you sure the chucks are threading on
completely and seating against the spindle shoulders (which are nick
free and clean)?

Just some thoughts...
