I know it's Liquid Dishwashing Detergent.
I've assumed that means "Hand-Dishwashing" since Machine detergents
are so caustic, but wanted to double-check since I believe technically
the hand-washing is "soap" and the machine-washing is a true
"detergent"
Just need clarification before I take the plunge. Thanks.

On a personal note, I am aware of areas of the east coast being dens of
iniquity, but BJ's? Are these anywhere near Chappaquiddick or Chappaqua?

Add Waltham to the list, but they do NOT sell Kirkland brand LDD (or ANY 5 gallon containers of LDD).

The only CostCo Diswashing Detergent was an Amber-colored
Anti-Bacterial dishwashing Soap.
I has picture in my mind of something like Ivory dishwashing soap
(no dye).
Could you describe the dishwashing soap from Costco?
Thanks,
Mike

Are you sure the bottle you saw read: anti-bacterial _dishwashing_ soap?
The color of the soap could be described as amber, but that might be due to
the orange colored label.
In any event, that is the one you want. I have only seen them in one gal.

Fortiter,
Don't get your shorts in a twist about a particular brand of liquid
dish detergent -- find the cheapest stuff you can, though getting a
clear (uncolored)soap without strong fragrances might be best. My
first soap experience was with Dawn, which is what I had on hand, but
the blue color does affect the color of the wood. I've been soaping
bowls for about 10 months, and I use Octagon, while my dad uses Ivory
Ultra (or some Ivory product). Another good source might be a health
food store, as they buy bulk containers of clear soap without
fragrance, and you might be able to order a 1- or 5-gallon container.
There is a reasonable question about breathing the dust of this stuff,
and my best guess is that the fragrances are going to be the problem
-- I'd still turn on the dust extractor or wear a mask.
The nicest thing about soaping green wood is you can go from live tree
to finished bowl in less than a week, without cracks, if you work with
a species that can tolerate drying in a microwave, and about 2-3 weeks
if you turn pretty thin, and dry slowly in a bag.
