Seeing that Racal have ceased trading, I would like to know if anyone in the
U.K is aware off a supplier for spare parts for the Racal Airlite
Respirators

I have a mutual interest in this situation. I have emailed Mark Baker
at Woodturning magazine and he has commissioned someone to do a
detailed report at a later date on powered visors. I have posted
almost the same question on the AWGB message board (
http://www.woodturners.info/cgi-bin/awgb/index.html ) so hopefully
somewhere along the line all of us can get some information.
According to Peter Hemsleys site "The Toolpost" (
http://www.toolpost.co.uk/system/index.html), 3M are keeping some
stock for 3 years but what then?

I have a Racal respirator too. It is a nice piece of kit. I did not
know they had gone bust. The thing that is likely to need replacing
first is the battery. It is quite easy to make a spare. I have already
done this because it is useful to have two batteries and the Racal
price for a replacement was exorbitant. I used a proprietary battery
holder (which is not essential), three rechargeable AA batteries, a
small (mono) jack plug, and short piece of wire. This assembly will
not fit into the battery holder in the respirator but it is easy to
tie it onto the top head band. It can be charged with the charger
supplied with the respirator. I think the jack plug size is 3.5 mm.
E-mail me if you need to know for sure and I will check.

If you have no local source for the bits and pieces have a look at:

Brian
Poolwood have a fair quanity of spares for the Racal as they bought a
lot when they heard that Airlite was going to be discontinued and he
even has some complete units at a discount on his web site
