All,

Phil Axtell went after the hot topic regarding Stubby lathes at Craft
Supplies. I'll just address the technical ones.

The Stubby lathes at Craft Supplies are not exactly as listed in the
catalog. The differences are as follows:

S1000:

30" between centers, not 34". I've pointed this discrepancy out before.
My Stubby from John is also only 30" between centers when extended.

The bed extension cannot be added onto the end of the ways to make the
bed longer. Just like the others, the extension can be added onto the
side of the bed or the front of the headstock.

S750:

CS had a longer bed on this lathe. It was the 39" between centers
version. John's 750 version (the one I have) is 30" as noted above.

The base provided by CS is quite robust, but is not height adjustable
like John's base. It is a two pedestal stand with a steel plate on the
bottom, similar to the integrated stand on the S1000. With the longer
bed and the massive stand, the lathe looked bigger than the S1000.

No other diffrences noted.

A slight mislead here. While one cannot add a bed extension to increase
length one CAN order the longer bed (rather than the shorter Jordan bed)
from Omega Via John Jordan for either the S1000 or the S750. Probably about
the same price or less than a typical bed extension.

The extensions mentioned are sidways additions for banjo mounting...

Right.  I was addressing the point in the CS catalog that suggests you can add the length of the auxillary bed to the existing bed, which is not possible with the design that I have at my house, nor with the design that CS had on display in Provo.
