It's half past two on Christmas morning, and DH and I have just
finished wrapping the children's Santa presents - he's creeping in to
leave them in pillowcases at the bottom of the bed even now. Our five
(nearly six)-year old solemnly informed us this afternoon that Santa
didn't exist, he was really Mummy and Daddy, but seemed to have
reversed her opinion by teatime when DH took her to see Santa arrive
in Alston bearing sweets and fruit for the assembled children.

I shall be just as thrilled as the little ones when they show me later
on this morning what Santa brought them!

A happy holiday season to all, and may we all find childlike delight
in something in the coming year.

I remember when my kids didn't believe anymore. Christine, being the
oldest, was the first one. I'm not sure when that happened, because
she never told me, but I did hear her talking to Maggie one day.

Maggie (she was 9years old) asked her if she still believed in Santa
. Christine (being a wiser 11 year old) asked her if she did, before
she admitted that she didn't think there was one, but "Don't tell Mom
& Dad, because they still think there is"

I thought that was so cute, that I didn't even let on I heard them.:>)

Oh Sue, this was my biggest sadness, when my children grew up, left home
and they weren't coming downstairs with squeals of delight...at this or
that. Enjoy it all whilst you can. Mind you, I've kinda scored treble
times over, because now they all have children of their own, and the
excitement for me, is ringing them Christmas morning to hear the
grandchildren all trying to explain as once what they have...then going over
to see them all over the following days to see the still live excitement,
and try to boost their mothers flagging energies and fraying
nerves....remembering how it was for me once......

Enjoy the magic time for the littleones whilst they are little, cos like I
told my second eldest, "One minute you were all here squealing with
delight, then I turned round, and you had all grown up and gone!" we can
never have this back, only re-live it a little with their children.

cheers.....cher

My DH, who is 7, is still believing in Santa. My 14 y/o son is helping keep
the secret. She was so, so excited this year, more than ever. She was
sorting all our gifts according to name and size and kept track of whos turn
it was to open a gift. This may very well be the last year she believes,
and it was a dream watching her. But as I told my son, Santa lives in our
hearts and that we really all must always believe. It makes us happy. Hope
everyone had a nice holiday and got what ever it was they wanted, especially
love!

I agree, the best part of Christmas is love, not the gifts or anything, but
being with the ones you love. I know Santa still lives in my heart at age 59.

Yes, being with the ones you love, that's the most important. We
were so very lucky that older son got to come home on leave for
Christmas. And I'll probably fall apart after I drive him back to the
airport New Years! He'll be gone for a year, in Iraq.
Here's something my Aunt sent in her annual Christmas letter I'd
like to share:

Every time a hand reaches out to help another.....that is Christmas.
Every time someone puts anger aside and strives for
understanding.....that is Christmas.
Every time people forget their differences and realize their love for
eachother...that is Christmas.

When I read this, I immediately thought of the lovely people on
this group, who all give so generously of their time and talents.

Marie,

That was lovely, thank you for sharing it. As my DH says it's Christmas every
day all year long, not just one day a year.
