Greetings, all! I am de-lurking to pick the collective intelligence of
this group. I have a pattern for a Teletubbies pullover sweater (or
"jumper" in British English), and it calls for 25 gram balls of Patons Knit 'n'
Save DK yarn. I already e-mailed Coats Patons in Canada, and they said to
contact Coats Crafts UK, since this yarn is made in the UK and not in
Canada, but gave only the address and telphone number, no e-mail.

I would like to know the following information, if anyone has it:

Is this really a DK weight yarn, as the name implies?
How many meters does a 25 gram ball contain?
Is this yarn sold anywhere in the US or Canada?
Can anyone recommend an appropriate substitute that is readily available
here in the US, or in Canada?

Many thanks in advance!

Rose, aka "IKNIT3"

Anything that knits to DK weight will do. DK weight is about 22 to 24 st
to 4 inches or 10 centimeters. Most of the Knit & Save Patons products
have been discontinued.

Every time I find a yarn that is really a good value to the yarn the
companies discontinue them. I guess thats life.

weight though, which I believe is not quite the same.

I can't answer these last questions but I can buy some for you in
England if you want. However, it is just a cheap 100% acrylic,
virtually only used for toys, etc. so I shouldn't think you would have
much problem getting an equivalent. It usually has a long yardage.
It's strange - we don't bother so much with length of yarn in the UK -
we have always traditionally gone by weight only.

One other thought - it is available by mail order from Knitwell in
Bradford. I'll have to look up their address for you later if you're
interested.

Rose,

Have you tried Quanah for Yarn? Seems to me I saw it there at some point.

Rose,

I have successfully substituted Patons Astra for the Knit 'n Save DK.
They are both dk weight, and the Astra comes in many colours.
