big change, I was curious to see the difference, All Northern Buses have
been moved out of the city. I was pondering which Knitting to take with me
, and took the sweater i Almost finnished , Took out the Dps , and put the
[last] half Sleeve on a holding pin , and decided to work on the body
part, And manged to knit quite a lot , I think i will measure today and
maybe sweater is long enough.
Reaching jerushalayim i was pleased to see we entered the new centarl

Knitter`s]. Than we went to the Museum For Islamic Art, to look at the
Whole Before our Group comes to see the Suzani Embroidery exhibition, with
the guided group.
-------------------------------
Here is the description of the exhibition,
"Flowering Gradens along the Silk Road"
presents , Embroidered Textiles from Uzbekistan, in the L.A. Mayer
Museum for Islamic Art, in Jerushalyim [jerusalem]. The exhibition shaows
SUZANI embroideries [ most Double Bed sized Bedcovers]
are Silk embroidered on a cotton [handwoven base], made mainly by Uzbekian
women, mainly durinf the 19th cent , and a bit less through the 18th cent.
Since Uzbekistan , is on the Famous "Silk Road", [Bukahra, Naratu,
Tashkent, ShariSebs,....] they had early access to silk threads , and
combined several traditions , Mugghul , Indian , Chineese, Turkish and old
Persian, They were influenced By the many by passing Caravans , as wellas
By the later Conquest of the Islam.
Their work shows Usually a great Middle Field , with various Borders
around it, Cloth was gathered and layed in [3-4] strips. The bride to be
or the MIL to be or an elder [and more experienced] woman, Drew lines on
the parts , to make some design , [flowers , petals , grandapples, the odd
butterfly, the odd almost humanlike pattern], than parts were divided
between several Family women or friends and each part was seperately
embroidered, Not all Embroideres kept strictly to the drawn lines, which
made for some later Non -similar parts.
Stiches used To FILL in those patterns were :
Basma , [ comes from the Tajik word Couched] Silk thread laid Over the
fabric and Couched with Itself, in a perpendicular direction.
Kanda Kahyol, a diagonal `Couched` stich that is less apparent than
the former st.
Tambour A xcrocheted Chain stich.
Ilmuk A cahin stich.
The main Suzani means Needle In the Tajik [a Persian Dialect].
The Ruling Color is red [ for Blood , fertility, hapiness ]
Colours were made from
Blue was extracted from Indigo planrt [ imported from India.
Black was extracted from the Pistachio trees` bark.
Green was made By mixing blue, and yellow made or from a Fungus that grew
on the mullberry bushes.
Yrllow was extracted from Saffron, or a Local Delphinium.
Rose Red was extracted from the Female Cochineal Insect [imported from
Russia] or the Rubia Plant.
The works are Incredible , and embroiderecparts look like Appliqued parts
rather than embroidered on the cloth.
------------------------
The Group all Fiber people were excited, asked a lot of expert questions ,
and several could even fill in more info to the lovely Guide, The room
vibrated with all the red the walls white washed , but each Suzani that
was hung in the wall Niches , had a light blue background , Room was kept
a bit Darkish , to ensure thw cloth Longer life.
