As the Bard said, there is no fury as a customer scorned, so
let me tell you my adventures with Left Bank Fabrics, a Los Angeles
company I tried to do business with in the never ending quest for
quality fabrics.

The company came recommended by a few California based teachers and
by several articles in "Threads" on mail order services. Below is a
copy of my letter to the Better Business Bureau of Los Angeles.

Let my dealings with Left Bank Fabrics be a warning for any of you
seeking "the finest fabrics in the world", "100 swatches at least
three times a year", "fashion bulletins of current events in the
world of high fashion and unlimited personal swatching".

Joanna

I am writing to register a complaint about the business practices
of

Left Bank Fabric Co.
8354 3rd Street
Los Angeles, CA 90048

Left Bank Fabric Co,. a fabric store and mail order service in
your area, has been recommended to me by sewing teachers from
California, has been favorably reviewed by the sewing magazine
"Threads", and has advertised in sewing and pattern
magazines ("Threads", "Vogue Patterns") as a reliable mail-order
source of fine fabrics.

I regret to say that my dealings with this company have left me with
a very different impression.

I responded to an ad in "Vogue Patterns" and sent an
application to the Left Bank Fabric Co. swatch club together
with a money order for $35 on November 14 of last year.
I have not received any swatches nor any acknowledgment of my
letter to date.

I called Left Bank Fabric Co. on January 17 to check if my letter
had reached their office and spoke briefly to a representative
who, as soon as she heard the purpose of my call, told me that
she was busy with a customer, but promised to return my call.
She has yet to do it.

I wrote a letter to the company on January 23
asking again to check if my letter had reached
the store and to return my fee if they no longer run a fabric
swatch and mail order service. I have received no reply from Left
Bank Fabric Co. to date.

I consider the practices of Left Bank Fabric Co. unprofessional,
fraudulent and deceptive. The company has pocketed my money order
sent in good faith and refused to communicate with me in any
fashion.

Such practices are unacceptable. I hope you will look into the
matter.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Joanna Kuczera

Joanna,
You might also send copies to Threads and any other magazine who has
advertised Left Bank. I've only been in the Newport Beach store long ago.
The fabric was truly beautiful, but they can't stay in business long if
that's how they are treating customers. Good Luck!
Suzy
