I need some help. I have been making pants for my son (10 mos. old) who
is fairly slim through the hips. Using pattern that are long enough (or
at least provide the length grow room I need) are too big in the hip
and thighs. I want to know where I should take in the 1-2" I need to
off these pattern. Should I take it all out of the side seam, crotch
seam o down the front and back of the middle of each leg? All the
guides have seen show how and where to add or subtract length but not
width. Any help would be appreciated.

Okay to e-mail me at Lisa Well...@wol.com

What I remember from years ago sewing pants for men was to take them up in
the back. Doesn't help much with the thighs though.

There are two things you can do. You can buy a smaller size and lengthen
the pattern on the pant legs, or you can take a tuck in the pattern equal
to about 1/4" on each pant leg( gradually done) to take in a couple of
inches. I have done both methods and they are easy and quick. Making
clothes for kids is one of my deepest pleasures.
