There are good instructions in the manual but I don't quite know some
of the parts they are referring to and really hoping someone here can
help.
On P 16 of the manual it shows a picture of the bobbin area and has
letters (from top to bottom) of AKBPFNQS. Anybody help me know what
each of these is by chance? How about the locations of the "hook",
"base stop", and "hook shaft"?
Thanks a bunch!

Have you changed the needle? It's more likely that a dull or slightly
bent needle is causing the symptoms than that the timing is off.

Isn't timing a fairly rare problem? Except for people who
are really rough with their machines?
Isn't it great to have Ron here to give advice like the
above?
I suspect the problem with my Thompson mini-walking foot
might be timing - everything seems to work fine, but it
does not pick up the bobbin thread. One of these days,
I'll set it up and try to watch it go through the paces.
Check the needle, and do the things I should before
thinking about timing. The only reason I suspect timing
is that there is a receipt in the case for resetting the
timing that is only a few years old. Maybe these machines
get out of whack easily?

I see a lot of machines with timing problems. With some of them,
it seems they have a mind of their own. It's almost like I can
set the timing and do a test that checks out OK, but, after I
put the cover back on, the timing's out again!

this sounds like a loose/stretched cog belt that is slipping
a tooth under torque, could drive you crazy. --Loren
