Ok, here goes! I'm Wendy, posting as "frood". I live in Central NC, USA. I'm
married to a fabulous man, and we have 5 kids, ranging from 13 to 4 yo
twins, known online as Spike and Giles. I've been quilting for about 7 or 8
years, mostly machine piecing and machine quilting. I love bright colors,
and I collect vintage textiles.

I'm just going back to work (3 days per week). I tend to machine piece,

My main QIs (Quilt Inspectors) are my twin girls. They love to play with
blocks on my design wall, and freely offer their opinions. Unfortunately,
they have little concept of the actual quilt-making process. The day after
helping me select fabric, they want to know where the finished quilt is!
My quilting pages are in my siggy, below. My site is in dire need of
updating, but there are still some quilts to look at.
See? Isn't this fun?
I'm Lisa, posting as lisae. I live in Santa Cruz, CA. I'm 52,
married, with a 24 year old son and a cat.
I've been quilting for about 30 years. I machine piece and mostly hand
quilt, although I have been teaching myself how to machine quilt. I
work with bright colots or with vintage textiles. Current projects
include a baby quilt for a baby due this month (almost done), a double
four patch top (an outgrowth of the baby quilt, as I used they use a lot
of the same material), and a 40's basket quilt that I am (slowly) hand
quilting.
I work full time and spend a lot of time climbing and hiking, so that
cuts into my quilting time.
Cheers!

I'm Louise and live in eastern Iowa. As of this Thursday, DH and I will have
been married 26 years -- no kids, but three stepkids and three
stepgrandchildren. QI is a little black dog named Tipper. I've been quilting
for about 25 years and seldom have less than three projects going at the
same time. I generally machine piece, hand applique, and hand quilt.
Although I love fabric in general, purple is my favorite. And if I'm going
to eat chocolate (which I'm not supposed to have!), I like the dark stuff!

I'm Larisa, posting as CNYstitcher. I'm 32, and have been married for
just over 7 years to a wonderful man who indulges me in fabric and
decorating changes. We have a 4yo boy, recently diganosed with ADHD,
and a 15mo girl, diagnosed with developmental delays. To keep sane, I
quilt, sew clothing, do cross-stitch, and redecorate our house. I
started quilting about 2 or 3 years ago (can't quite remember) and have
determined that this year I will attack things that I have said were too
difficult for me in the past. I have 3 QIs, all cats - Nugget 8yrs,
Shadow 7yrs, and Shadows littermate Spirit. What have i forgotten???

I work full time as a legal secretary. Have a cat as my QI. I have been
quilting for about 20 years. This group is wonderful inspiration and many
of my quilts have been done in recent years. I try really hard to finish a
project so only have about 2 WIP. I enjoy my sewing machine for both quilt
construction and quilting....none of the hand work for this gal. You can
have a peek at some of my projects in my album, link under my name.

I began collecting sewing machines about 10 years ago beginning with a
treadle. I just bought my 14th -- a Singer 301. My collection includes
several treadles now, including one that was used to make costumes for
Kate Smith, and a New Home with an original fashion book from the turn

I'm "Nana" (because of all the rolls I've had in life that the funist!!).
I'm married for almost 32 years to a great guy I met in high school. I live
in a suburb of NYC - Scarsdale. I have two grown kids; my DD is married and
she and my SIL have my grandbaby - now three years old (known as Nana's
Sunshine). My DS is unmarried and living a few blocks away so I have an
almost-always-empty-nest. My DH and I are members of a Religious Order as
"Associates" (if anyone is really interested I can explain).
I have two QI's; a cat that knows everything and is more than willing to
tell you so and a puppy that is just learning from the cat how much he
doesn't know.
I have been quilting for six and a smidge years and love traditional
patterns and most bright colors as well as batiks, jewel tones, etc. I
usually machine piece and hand quilt. I have made four queen size, numerous
twin size and bunches of crib, cradle and in-between sizes.
This past year I've experienced many major medical issues - some of which
I'm receiving treatments for regularly (which really interferes with the
stuff I REALLY want to do). I'm also trying to parent my parents at the
moment which further slows me down.
And the sad part, is that just about sums up my life - with the exception of
loving to cook and garden.

DH and I have been married for almost 30 years and have lived in the Fort
Worth area for 16. We are originally from Illinois (Go Illinois State!) We
have two DS's---neither married (I am thinking about posting DS#1 on Ebay
looking for a suitable gf). DS#1 is 24 and an athletic trainer in South
Texas, DS#2 is a student at LSU in Baton Rouge. I am an elementary school
librarian and DS teaches hs math.
I prefer to machine piece and machine quilt although I do send out anything
larger than a twin to a good friend who has a longarm machine business. I
have been quilting for 23 years and give away many of my quilts as gifts. I
do commission work if I can find it. No QI's.
My quilts are located at http://photos.yahoo.com/jdal...@flash.net
Favorite colors are brights, reds and blues.
Just finished a New Year's Eve mystery with another group and have an attic
windows quilt that needs bordering. Too many UFO"s to count and let's not
even talk about PIGS!

I'm a newbie to quilting, been at it for a year so
far, but have had to stop for awhile due to constant
nausea and exhaustion. I hope to pick it up again
now that I'm past the first trimester.
I work full time and wish I could spend more time
with my kid.

I have four children - two mine, two his - all four are "ours". Mine are 32
and 34, his are 18 and 21. My son lives in Florida and has a room ready for
us anytime. My daughter, now living with us, just presented us with a
beautiful grandson who will have no face skin left after all our kisses.
His son just joined the Marines and is in advanced infantry training at Camp
Jejeune, NC. His daughter is almost finished her teaching degree in art and
just had her tonsils out today. All four could not be better children nor
could we love them more! I also take care of my 85 year old mom in Florida.
So we are what they call members of the "sandwich" generation - kids on one
end, parents on the other. Currently we have 4 dogs and 4 cats living with
us as well - half from us, half from my DD when she moved in with us.
I use a Pfaff Creative 7570 to quilt. I prefer the color choosing, cutting
and piecing. I have two great ladies that do beautiful machine quilting. I
would do more hand quilting if I were better at it. I work full time plus
have a web design/hosting business.
I hope to get more quilting done in 2005 now that my grandson is here. I
also need to find a more appropriate siggy quotation when I get the time.
Welcome to all the newbies!

I'm Melinda, also from Australia but a bit further north than Sharon
Cardiff in New South Wales. I have a DH that is self employed and works

I haven't done a lot of quilting, I'd say intermediate piecer and a
beginner quilter, started pieceing about '96. I also belly dance, so
I dabble in beading and I'm on the New South Wales state team for
metallic silohette(sp) (I think my brain has taken a short holiday).
My favourite colours are bright, hot pinks, royal purple, black, white,
royal and navy blue, but I'll work with almost any colour. Currently
piecing a scrap top lap sized and an autumn toned bed sized top for DH.

I've been married for a year. (one of the two posters in this forum who got
married New Year's Eve, and apparently the same day!) We've got 4 children
ranging in age from 4 to 14 between us, three dogs, two cats, and a
cockroach that rearranges the furniture in the living room.
I've been sewing since I was 12. I learned on my mom's Centennial
Featherweight. I'd die to have that machine back. I now own a Pfaff 7550.
I like to do the quilts that make people stop in their tracks and look.
When I make a quilt, I love the look on people's faces. Usually, I end up
giving them to extended family or charity. I'm still trying to make the
twin quilts for the children. It just seems there's very little time in my
day!

I forgot to mention that I also make garments, which is how I got into

I live near Binghamton NY, and all of my kids have fuzzy faces and four
feet. I'm 36 in another 2 hours, and it doesn't look likely to have the
other kind of kid. But I'm a devoted Aunt. I've been married over 8
years now.
I've been quilting for a while, but I do other needlework as well. I'm
in the SCA, if you know what that is and care. Other hobbies include
fermenting things, cheesemaking, garb making, and Calligraphy and
Illumination. I am multiple chemical sensitive, and violently alergic to
perfumes and other strong smells.
I collect privy-related things and research. Fabric preferences include
batiks, jewel tones, purples, blues, greens, and anything that isn't
floral.
I do modern all machine style quilting as well as completely by hand,
and my current insanity is a 1390 reproduction- all by hand with
authentic materials. I will *need* to do something modern when I finish
it! And I'm in process of a Dear Jane as a take along sewing project to
do by hand. Look for an Evil Sun Bonnet Sue Block come April.

We also kinda run a small hobbies out of our home, working on Computers
it is only by word of mouth. (sometimes Dh may have 10 at the house some
months, or some months we don't have any.
I have been draw to crafts very since I was a small child. making
Crochet chains when I was a small child, to sewing clothes when I was a
young teen, then clothes off in on throughout the years, I have been
crocheting for many years, and have made so many Afghans (all where
given away) but my love to make a quilt started oh, about in the early 90s.
I saw a show on TV about cutting up and using your child baby clothes to
make into a quilts. Of coarse I had to try it.
And I sure did not know what I was doing, but I got busy, and made a big
mess.. cutting all shapes and sizes. until it was a big sewed together
sheet looking thing. I kept this for many years. until I threw it away.
It was a few more years and a few more Afghans later that It dawn on me,
that Maybe I could learn how to Quilt online.. so I typed up a search,
and finding many Quilting Groups, and many online pages on how to quilt.
But the more I learned, the more confused I became, So many questions,a
nd no answers..
So I turned to a few Web page groups, asked a few questions, without
answers..
It wasn't until I think in 02, that I found this newsgroup.. Joined up..
and found wonderful, good hearted people, that where willing to teach me
and answer my questions (no matter how funny they where) with love and
caring.
Back in 1992 I receive my very first Sewing machine, (a Kenmore, which
is what I still sew on today and we paid close to 300.00 for it, which I
thought was out of this world for a sewing machine,, and still do. LOL)
I found a lovely sewing machine cabinet for it a few years back, (used
very hard.. but only for 50.00) which I just love. Which sure has made
Quilting a lot better!!
I machine piece and Machine Quilt, but would love to learn how to hand
Quilt.
To date: I have finish up 7 quilts. I have one that is finished and
ready to pin and Quilt. I also have an 04 mystery quilt to work up and
the 05 that just came out.
I was hoping to finish up at least two before the new year started, but
finishing up an Afghan (whom someone here was kind enough send me) some
pretty yarn a year back to give to my Grandmother. has taken first
place. I have been really itching to get back to quilting now. But I
know how I am, If I start on Quilting the Afghan will never get done. LOL
I am sure I can do all the Quilting I would like to see done..
The Quilting could not have been done without this group, Not only does

What fun! :) I'm Sandy (see below <g>) and have been quilting since
about 1985. I started out machine piecing and hand quilting, but now I
also do some machine quilting -- both are so different and wonderful!
I've been married for almost 33 years, and we have two grown DDs, both
married. We also have four grandsons (two from each DD), aged almost
six, almost four (two of them -- first cousins) and six months. I'm a
56-year-old retired high school French teacher and am currently tutoring
some students in that language. We have two QIs, Dexter and Tuppence,
though Tuppence takes her duties a bit more seriously than does Dexter.
;) He mostly waits for the finished product so he can nap -- but then,
he's ten now, so I guess he's entitled. :) Tuppence tends to keep me
company in my sewing room and await any opportunity to plunk down on a
project, finished or un. ;) You can see some of my work at the web site

Married since 1973 to a total sweetheart who indulges me terribly. I mean,
really--he picks stuff out in fabric stores and says, "shouldn't you have
this for your stash?" Quick learner--I've only been quilting a little over a
year. But I'm totally hooked and have spent a small fortune (that we don't
have!). DH says, however, that it's still cheaper than therapy.
In addition to FT school, I do a variety of chaplaincy/rabbinical stuff. DH
is a music teacher in a Phila public school (argh!).
We have two grown kids, one granddaughter, and two nutty Scotties who serve
as QIs and have us hopelessly wrapped around their dewclaws.

I'm Nann. I live in northeasternmost Illinois, 4 blocks from the Wisconsin
line and mile from Lake Michigan. I grew up in suburban Chicago, went to
the University of Missouri, and have been a public library director for 29
years and 8 months in Texas, Kansas, Maine, North Dakota, and, since 1998,
back in Illinois. (My library is at www.zblibrary.org) My husband, a
former academic librarian, is in his 15th year as a United Church of Christ
pastor. He serves a congregation in east central Wisconsin, 94 miles north
of where I live. We have a commuter marriage and I go up to see him most
weekends.
My first quilt was a cross-stitch Bucilla kit, made when I was in library
school. I continue to use both the quilt and the degree every day. I did a
lot of needlepoint in the 70's, cross stitch in the 80's. In the early 90's
I found out that machine piecing and quilting are acceptable and I haven't
looked back.
I continue to do a lot of garment sewing, including wearable art. I began
collecting redwork in the 70's and also have a considerable accumulation of
vintage linens which I hope to incorporate into garments.
I always like to find out how many ways our lives connect through other
affiliations. I'm a member of Alpha Gamma Delta, the P.E.O. Sisterhood, the
American Association of University Women, and Rotary International. [Just
finished a block for a quilt to commemorate the RI Centennial this year, and
last year I coordinated a quilt for the Alpha Gam centennial.] I'm also
involved in the American Library Association (and I am co-convenor of the
ALA Quilters Taskforce).

I'm a newbie.. Michelle.. from Matawan, New Jersey. I'm 32 with a 2 yr old

the local Bernina sewing center. I had to make some baby quilts for friends
that were expecting. I was hooked right away... made 6 quilts so far and all
of them went as gifts.. stupid me forgot to photograph any of them though!!
I just bought a new machine.. a Brother CS8150 .. i LOVE it! just finished a

spell it. It was hard but the final product is beautiful! (i'll have to take
some pictures) ... Now i just have to make something for my own son because
he keeps stealing the one i just finished and says it's his! :)
I'm horrible at coming up with patterns.. but if I have something to follow
i'm doing okay...

Due to many health problems I don't work outside the home. So I keep myself
busy with quilting. DH is completely supportive and is getting into the
enjoyment of it too. He sometimes enjoys the fabric fondling and matching
colors. As the projects are being pieced, I depend on him a lot to help me
with placement of blocks. He really has a good eye for design. I have been
sewing since I was about 7 and started quilting in junior high school. I got
away from it for several years and just started back a couple of years ago.
I'm addicted now though.

We also have a dog--Maxie. She is 7 or so and is a Yellow Lab Mix.
Her contribution to quilting is to demand to be let in or out often
enough that I don't sit for too long at a time.
Been quilting since 1985 (with some starts and stops since then).
That first class sampler isn't done but I have finished some since
then. Most of my projects are done by machine (I use a Pfaff 2046
most of the time but also have DH's grandmother's FW). I also like to
have a hand project for all those times I am waiting--during lessons,
at the orthodontist, for kids to emerge from school and so on. I made
a quuen size GFG by hand (not quilted yet) and am now working on 1000
Pyramids.
I have waaaay too many projects in progress. My list is posted in FSM
2004 (which Alice W recently invited people to join). However I do
also need to make a college quilt because DS #1 will be going away
this fall.
In addition to my local guild and RCTQ, I belong to two small online
groups. One of those groups has an annual retreat which brings us
together from across the country.
Thanks for suggesting this Wendy!

Talking about quilt shops and the sights along the way.
Haven't been around much lately due to the Christmas season but pop in on a
regular basis.
I've met quite a few folks in person between meet-ups in Seattle and
Houston.
If you ever come up to Vancouver, give me a holler and I'll head you in the

I am Debbi, posting as Debbi in SO CA. I was married for 11 years to a
heartless cardiologist, have now been divorced for 12 years. Have a DD 18
who goes to University of Pittsburgh (will be flying back in the morning)
and a DS 15 who was born with a lot of problems. I have been quilting for
approximately 6 years and really surprised that I like it since my 7th grade
home ec teacher guaranteed I would hate sewing for the rest of my life and
then some.
Have a QI of the doggie variety named Billy.
I am currently working at the world's worst job as a middle school campus
supervisor. Hoping to get a full time job with benefits through the county
this year. Everyone keep your fingers crossed as I have had several
interviews and have passed a civil service test. Now I just need a job
offer!
It is raining like mad around here and makes for perfect quilting weather. I
love working on queen size whole cloth quilts while I am watching TB and
doing my piecing when there is nothing I care about on TV-- which is often!

Aloha! I'm Joy, posting as A Joy in Hawaii. I'm a 34 year old
Filipino/Native Hawaiian/Japanese/Cherokee/Welsh/Portuguese (wow, yeah?!)
woman that lives in Holualoa, HI (a part of Kona, HI) on a coffee farm (no,
I don't have to pick it but you can find me sneaking a few coffee cherries
to suck on for a quick pick me up, hee hee). I have three kidlets DD1 4
y.o.(almost 5), DD2 3 y.o. and DS1 20 months old. I'm working on getting my
D(arn)H to agree to divorce so that I don't have to pay outrageous attorney
fees. It's been a rough year for me all around with these ongoing marital
problems and then my dad past away on November 18, just about a month and a
half ago. I've gotten back to piecing but somehow I just can't get the
machine quilting thing going again. I do love to hand quilt, though. I
started quilting Hawaiian quilts and even had a job as a quilt demonstrator
in Waikiki around 3 years ago which was really fun. I don't have any of the
quilts I completed while active on RCTQ doing our monthly challenges with
the late Sue and I've lost the pictures of them that were on Webshots. Oh
well, I'll get them back someday, I hope. RCTQers have been a great support
to me and HUGged me and my kids 4 times over and blessed me with more than I
could imagine. At the moment, I am totally loving batiks and am planning on
entering the Kona Coffee Quilt Contest in June using these batiks and hand
dyed fabrics from Mardi. Most of my day is spent as a case manager for the
severely and persistently mentally ill and evenings are with my 3 kidlets.
Very little time to do quilty things these days...besides read RCTQ posts to
keep me sane =). So if you're new, welcome. If you've been around, I guess
I'm back *grin*.

I've been sewing since I was about 8 years old but only quilting for about 6
years. I'm probably considered an intermediate piecer and I usually send
the larger quilts out to be quilted. I just purchased a used HQ 16 and
frame that should arrive in a week so from now on I'll be doing my own
machine quilting. I never did learn to hand quilt but I've always wanted
to.
I do most of my quilting in the summer and fall since I run a small income
tax business that keeps me tied up from January to April each year. I found
RCTQ about 8 or 9 months ago and I've learned so much since then from the
people on the group. To all the newbies out there, welcome! You're gonna
love it here.

I'm Marilyn (online as Marigold). I am married for the 3rd and LAST time to
a wonderful guy who is also married for the 3rd and last time! Between us we
have 16 children ( I have 5 biological, he has 5 biological and the other
six were picked up in second marriages but we've kept them all!) They range
in age from 12 to 32. None of them live with us at present, but you never
know what tomorrow might bring. We are now at 18 grandchildren (last one
born Dec 1 2004). We have two dogs (golden retrievers) and 1 calico cat.
I have been sewing as long as I can remember(long time!) Made several baby
quilts back in the early 70's but didn't really think of it as quilting
because it wasn't cutting up scraps! Apparently thats what I thought
quilting was about! I finally made my first scrap quilt about 1982. The hard
way! It is not a work of art! I had no instruction, just cut up squares of
scraps and outgrown kids clothes, stitched them all together in long rows
and then stitched the long rows together, layered it with batting and an old
sheet and attempted to manuever it through my sewing machine to stitch in
the ditch. It's not something I show off, but it sure holds memories! It was
a long painstaking process and almost finished my life as a quilter. Then I
was introduced to a rotary cutter, strip piecing and all the modern miracle
ideas for quilting and now I can't seem to get enough. I want to try it all
!
I am currently finishing my third denim (blue jean scrap) quilt since Nov. I
did a baby quilt in Nov. and sewed several xmas presents that were not
quilts. I'm looking for ideas for a wedding quilt for my biological DS #1
who is getting married in the summer??? (No date yet!)
My husband is a knife maker and together we operate an online webstore for
his knives and knife making supplies. We also have a web hosting business. I
am currently looking at ideas for a quilters gift site (any ideas would be
welcome??) I do t-shirt imprinting, specializing in quilters themes and
knifemakers sayings.
I also do the leatherwork to go with my husbands knives. What I want to try
next is button making from the scraps of exotic wood from his knife
handles.... Kind of like quilting..... using up scraps??
I don't post on here often, but when I'm feeling cut off from the world ( We
live an hour from anywhere in a village of 400 people and I don't have a car
on the road right now!) reading the posts makes me feel like I'm still part
of the world.
Happy New Year to All !
Great quilting in 2005

I've been quilting for about 2 1/2 years now, doing hand applique, a bit of
hand quilting, machine piecing and starting to get more adventurous with
machine quilting. I've just put a Janome 6500 on layby and am looking
forward to getting to know that. I also love teddies and have been cross
stitching for many years. There are pics of the QIs and some of my creations
at my website.
I've learnt heaps from the people of this group and the links they have
provided. Thanks to everyone who has helped me improve my quilting knowledge
and abilities, whether they were aware of it or not. :-)

Well, ok, it's not 600-year-old fabric... but it is linen of roughly the
same weave, linen floss, and linen thread...
I'm hoping to post a pic this week. I finally got all of the embroidery
done.
It's based on the guiarducci (sp) tapestry, also known as the Tristram
and Isolde quilt, which is in the V&A in London, with a matching one in
the Bargello Museum in Florence. It shows scenes from the Tristram and
Isolde legend, which is tied up in the Arthur mythos.
I picked one of the scenes - two knights fighting- and re did the words
on it (which were Scilian) and the devices on the sheilds. It is to
commemerate a friend becoming a Duke, and will be his scroll (yes, Duke
in SCA).

I joined the r.c.t.q. in 1998, shortly after our family purchased our
first computer. Since then, my 2 teenageers (DS, 17 & DD, 15 )
have their own computers, DH and I share this one. DH is really
into R/C Aircraft, he designs & builds them but lets the other guys
fly them, he's afraid to crash! LOL.
I work at home, making quilts for publication in two magazines and
also another famous quilt designer. In between paid jobs I design
and self-publish my own patterns for local distrbution, and teach them
at the LQS. I love being busy, though it limits my online time and I
don't post here too often.
I don't have a website yet, but some of my quilts are up for viewing

I am married with 3 kids (g9,b7 and g almost4) and 2 dogs (old golden mix
and young black lab). I Have managed to collect 5 sewing machines! DH thinks
that is 3 to many.... but puts up with it bc 3 are disguising themselves as
furniture right now... lol
Started quilting in '93 or '94 with a "qillow" unless you consider the
trapunto wallhanging self portrait i did in college in '90 or the folded
star wallhanging quilting....
I do some webdesign and desktop publishing from home now, but have been an
art teacher, a director of a Mother's Morning Out, and worked many other odd
jobs from catering to sales clerk. Don't currently have my own website
:( too busy working on other ppls! Very involved in the kids' school, so
that takes up a lot of my quilting time.
Starting to make jewelry again, dabbled with it in college and high
school... Still love quilting more, but the jewelry gets finished faster
<grin> !
Learning to applique and free motion quilt.

I'm 57 years old and am a retired RN. I had to retire early do to my
disabilities.
My great gramma taught me to crochet. She was blind, though, so the way I
learned is a bit different. :) I never need to look at my hands, as
everything is done by "feel." My mother taught me to knit when I was
12 -- the European way, and I enjoy knitting, except I find that the
arthritis in my hands get a little riled up when I get those needles
going.
I always wanted to quilt, and finally took a 12 week class at a local
college. Quilting satisfies every creative bone in my body. I love
designing, choosing colors and fabrics and making usable quilts. I like
the pretty ones, but they have to be practical. The only quilts I baby
are antique ones. My favorites are a 1930's star pattern quilt made by my
step-father's mother. Then I have 2 pillow cases of Victorian style Crazy
quilting that my GGM made of old men's silk ties. The quilting thread
(embroidery floss) is always very colorful. She used up whatever bits and
pieces she had. Her frugal style is distinctive enough that all the women
in my family know immediately who the maker was when one of her projects
appear.
I live in Des Moines, Iowa, Been here since 1998, and am now living in an
apartment with my daughter. She's gone back to college, so we enjoy
living together again. We've always had a lot of fun together.
My DS and DDIL live next door -- just down our hallway and the first
apartment you come to. This works out wonderfully for me because they
have my first DGD, aged 3, and are going to have my second DGD any day
now. Yay! for Grandchildren!!
I kicked my husband out nearly 3 years ago. We are still married -- 37
years. Our family went through a big crisis in 1998 and it was extremely
stressful. I had a nervous breakdown because of it, and still haven't
truly recovered.
Before we moved to Iowa, we all lived in Montana, which is where all of us
were born and raised in. It will always be "Home" for us. If my health
ever improves I'd like to go back, but there aren't that many doctors
there, and you have to drive long distances to get to them.
I have a Bernina 1630 Sewing Machine, and a Bernina Deco Embroidery
Machine. These two machines should last me the rest of my life and my
daughter has already laid claim to them! :)
I love appliqué and piecing, traditional and children's. I'm not too sure
about art quilts. I always think, "They're pretty, but what Do They Do?"
My hand quilting is OK, and when I found Tiger Tape, I thought the
manufacturers must have seen me squinting and frowning some time when I
was trying to do some hand quilting outdoors.
My favorite fabrics are Batiks and vintage 30's era. For such a dark
time, those ladies sure knew how to brighten up their lives with those
great flour sacks. I truly admire them.
I love color -- the more the better. The only color I buy only if I need
it for a specific piece is orange. Not my favorite, but if used in small
amounts and as a bright highlight, it's OK. I *love* the jewel tones --
magenta, purple, royal blue, violet, ruby red, peridot green, etc.
I've been collecting fabric nearly my entire life. I made many of my own
clothes in high school and also my dress to wear on our honeymoon trip.
About that time I learned to self-line my dresses so I wouldn't have to
bother about slips and droopy straps. I'd make my own purses to
coordinate with my outfits. I made most of my DD's school clothes and
good clothes for church.
Other things I love to do are oil-painting and water color paintings. I
did some tole painting in a class a few years ago and that was fun, too.
I'm the family historian and have been putting together our genealogy
since I was 15.
I'm half French-Canadian-Indian (Chippewa), on my father's side. My
mother was of Danish-Swedish-Norwegian descent. I got her very fair skin,
but I got everything else from my father. I have dark brown hair (very
little gray yet) and though I wear Ivory foundation, I tan in minutes in
the summer. That's when I look like my Native American grandmother. :)
So -- you probably know more about me than you wanted to know. But I am
interested in other people and want to get to know you all more. (I don't
Peep, though!) LOL
Happy Stitchin' and Take Care!

That's me in a nutshell
Diana in Dallas
This is a fun thread to read.. so shall add a bit:
I'm Allison (posting with the same name) and I live in Montreal Quebec
Canada. I have a DH, two DD and 3 QI (cats who definitely love to leave
their fur on the latest project). I've done bed quilts for every bed in
the house and a few baby quilts that were given away. Now I'm more
interested in doing wall hangings - since they are smaller I can play
around with different techniques!
I live north of Atlanta, GA and have been married almost 27 years. My
husband likes going fabric shopping and to quilt shows, which is great. We
have 2 cats - Shorty and Squeaky.
I've been quilting since 1998 when I went to a local quilt store to see what
the difference was from a regular fabric store and signed up on the spot for
their 8 week class using the Quilts, Quilts, Quilts book. I had been
intending to get back to sewing garments which I hadn't done in about 10
years, but that still hasn't happened. I machine piece and machine quilt
with my free motion quilting finally getting good enough to actually leave
the house on a gift quilt. I occasionally hand quilt and pin baste for that
since I really, really hate thread basting. I am very active in my local
guild and belong to a great bee. I do my guilds website and also have a
small website business consisting of 2 quilt stores and 1 pattern site. I
also started teaching foundation piecing at a local shop last year and
really enjoy it.
The knitting needles have come out after a long absence and I'm just
finishing up my first pair of socks in one of the Fortissima striped yarns.

Oh, and I got a fun 1951 Singer 301A (Mocha, longbed) for Christmas.
It's a workhorse! Still a great machine all these years later and so
reasonably priced!
