Is there some metallic thread that is suitable for hand quilting? I'm not
ready to take the plunge with machine quilting and am working on a wall
hanging that would be perfect for metallic thread. Anyone done any hand
quilting with metallics?

Hi Susan:
I'm hand quilting a wall hanging right now with Sulky metallic thread. It's
no problem, just use shorter lengths of thread than usual because it frays
in the eye of the needle after being pulled through the 3 layers of the
quilt. I've also used Mylar thread with no problem, as lon as you don't
yank it too hard!

Susan, DMC makes thickish gold and silver threads with "light silver/gold
thread" at the spool which is fine for hand quilting. Mölnlycke also has gold
and silver, thinner than DMC but works just fine (for machine quilting too).

I second this recommendation. This stuff is GOOD for hand work!

I use DMC Metallic or Sulky Metallic thread both in my machine and by hand. So
far I have had no trouble.
