Hi All,
I hope you're having a progressive summer like me. I'm not getting as much
quilting finished as I would have liked. I've been to and from Pa. twice
this summer to see my mom, who has just started kidney dialysis and several
other things.
I just finished painting my master bedroom ( and inside my bedroom
closets) and my bathroom ( ceilings and woodwork too). It looks great
and is now a pale pink with white ceilings and woodwork. So I guess I'm am
using my artistic ability, but in a different way. I'm finally adding some
color to my walls ( except the main floor might still be an off-white,
because of all my dark furniture.
I'm working my way through the house. Every room needs painted. ( all
three bedrooms upstairs and the two bathrooms are now painted. As soon as I can
get the upstairs hallways finished, I'll have one complete level finished (
and I have four split levels in my house). Later today, I'm going to paint
the ceilings in the laundry room , powder room, upstairs hallway and
hopefully small landing room. If I don't get all this finished today, I'll
finish it up tomorrow morning.
I'm also striping the kitchen, bathrooms and laundry room floors and
re-waxing them & changing all the shelf paper in the kitchen closets and
linen closet. .
The biggest job in the near future will be tackling the downstairs (
the rec. room / sewing room) I have so much "stuff" there and I want to re-
organize my fabrics and crafts. If I have any extra supplies to give away,
I'll offer them at our craft group, Nellys Needlers or local quilt group.
When I do the downstairs ( before it can be painted too) , I also have to
clean out the utility room that is down there. My quilting and crafts supplies
have taken over somehow. <geez>.
I don't know what I've eaten to give me this much energy, but I'll let you
know if I figure it out.
I've enjoyed looking at al your websites this summer and being inspired. I
read most of the post here, but haven't had time to write a lot. I'll have
to get as much energy in my quilting as I have now for my house redecorating
and organizing. Maybe the re-organizing has to come first, to lead me in the
right direction. I need inspiration from you all and need to find it in
myself. I am in the middle of doing four different wall hangings that are 18"
x 28" . They are all in different styles and I am enjoying doing all four of
them. I'm using different applique techniques on them, along with fancy
threads and yarns, beadwork and fabric weaving.
I'm going to have to seriously take up my son's offer to make me a web page
, so I can show some of my quilts and garden. I've been doing a lot of flower
gardening this spring and summer and my first "Lord Baltimore Hibiscus" opened
this moring. I can't wait to take a photo of it. It's bright red. I've also
had my first "moonflowers " twrilling open in the evening. I have about eight
different flower gardens in the yard. One of them needs my weeding help, but
it's going to be near 90 degrees again today with a lot of humidity.
I've also been into the city ( Washington DC) about four times in the
past month . Once to see the rare diamond exhibit at the Smithsonian Museum,
to the Corcoran Gallery to see the "impressionists" paintings , to the
National Gallery of Art for a new exhibit and to the national botanical garden
by the Capitol to see the rare , giant " corpse flower" open up. It only
opened 40 % this year. It should re-bloom in about three years.
I've gone to the Gettysburg.Pa. quilt show and plan on going to the Ft,
Washington Quilt Show in Philadelphia, Pa also. I just need more hours in the
day. Stop on by if you need activity in your life. I always keep busy.
Where are you certain people that promise to stop by and visit????? You know
who you are & I'm waiting for you. Any words of wisdom out there to get
more quilting done., besides just getting into the sewing room and "doing
it". <smile>

Well, no wonder you haven't gotten much quilting done - you're too busy
painting! I'm looking forward to seeing you next month at the Ft. Washington
show. I wish I could see your house - it sounds fabulous!

Hi Kris, I am exhausted just listening to all you have done
this summer. Sounds like the house will be wonderful. Nothing
seems to make more of a difference than a fresh coat of paint,
IMO. 8 flower gardens? Boy I wish you were my neighbor. I love
flowers but found that most people don't want to put the work
into having a lot of them. When I am showing off my flowers I suggest
to folks they can enjoy the flowers or see the weeds, it is their
choice. I am pretty casual so a few weeds are ok with me. The quilting
will come, I bet not long after you re-organize the fabrics and craft
room (if not before!). Challenge yourself to get those wall hangings
done. Charity quilts are always a great way to motivate too. Take
some time to have an ice tea and sit out and enjoy that hibiscus
and your other flowers today.

Wow - you've really been busy Kris. When could you fit in quilting. ;-o

I'm working on 4 different projects that have to be done by mid September
for our quilt show.

1. I paid to have my Civil-war fabrics quilt done that's larger (72 x 86)
since I knew I didn't want to struggle with that myself. My free motion
quilting needs more practice and I really get tired of doing straight lines
all the time. Now I can't decide what to use as the binding.
2. I have to sandwich and quilt a Secret Staircase design by Bethany
Reynolds that started last year when she was here for classes.
3. I'm just finishing up hand quilting an Ohio Star and 4 patch quilt made
up of blocks given to me by my bee for hostessing in 1999 and 2001.
4. And a small 21" square pinwheel type done from the book "Square Dance".
It's in bright oranges, lime green and a bunch of other strong colors - a
big change from my usual stuff.

I'm a big gardener too. We've been at this house 1 year and brought at
least 90% of our plants with us, although a lot are still in a holding area.

Gosh, Kris, you're making me tired just reading about all you've been up
to! <g> Best of luck with the painting and reorganizing -- as well as
with the web site. I'd love to see some of your quilts!

Kris sweetie, do you hire out!! My goodness you have been one busy gal. I
would love to see your flower gardens. We planted moon flowers last year and
on full moon nights the flowers looked like they glowed in the dark! Hope
your son sets up that web site for you. Hugs, Helen in WI
