Some of you may remember that I got that terrible flu in 2/2007, had
low electrolytes, fainted & broke my ankle. Since I broke both sides
they put some hardware in to stablize the ankle while it healed. Ever
since then I've not been able to stand or walk very long and spend a
lot of time with my ankle elevated. I kept hoping that it would
eventually get better, but it did not. Last month I went to the
doctor and he recommended surgery to remove the hardware.

So, I am going to have that done early tomorrow morning. Hopefully,
after I recuperate I'll be able to walk and stand around again :-).
Prayers are appreciated.

Many thanks for the prayers and kind thoughts :-)

The doctor said the surgery went well and he had no difficulties
taking the hardware out. The effects from the anesthesia/medicatation
they gave me at the hospital is finally wearing off, so I thought I'd
login and let you know I'm fine :-). As long as I keep my foot
pointing to the ceiling, elevated & iced, I don't even have much
pain :-).

Soo glad you've reported back in and all went well, Bev. We've been holding
you close. How long do you have to do the point at the ceiling thing?
Days? Weeks? Do we need to send you some chicken soup or basket-weaving
supplies? Polly

The foot/ankle is in a splint. There is normally some swelling after
a surgery like this and could be pressing some against the splint.
Hopefully the swelling will go down in a day or two, assisted by the
icing/keeping the foot raised above heart level. I do have a
prescription for pain relief, but it is for Hydrocodone, which does
not sit well with me, so I am just taking some Ibuprofen. They were
supposed to prescribe something else, but must have forgotten about
it. I probably should have said something yesterday but we did not
see the discrepency until we got home. My DH was up all Thursday
night (reaction to some medicine he took) and we live out in the
country so it would have been a great hardship on him to go back into
town (a minimum of 1.5 hour round trip). He would have done it if I
had asked him to, but I did not have the heart to do so -- he was that
tired. In the meantime I'm not in much pain in that position and I
can call the doctor on Monday if things don't settle down. Perhaps it
is best I don't have the heavy duty pain killer as they tend to make
me a bit dizzy and I don't do well on crutches in the best situation
(I have non-weight bearing instructions for my right ankle).

My DH is keeping me well supplied :-) He planned ahead and got me
some Tofutti -- Vanilla Almond Bark (vanilla/almond with chocolate
chunks -- yummy!!!), and a bunch of magazines. Two of those magazines
are quilting ones that I did not have, "Quilt Sampler" and "Fabric
Trends for Quilter". He did all that without my asking for it and
even though he does not like to encourage my quilting bug :-). He
kept it all a secret for several days and surpised me with both after
we got home yesterday :-)

They gave me that Hydrocodone after my surgery too. That stuff scares me to
death; I've seen too many people's lives ruined from addiction to it.
Really. If you can survive on Ibuprofen, that is a very good thing. Your
DH is such a thoughtful sweetheart, hug him for me and Don't clobber him
with the crutches. Careful. Polly
