I have just won a Moda Jelly Roll (2.1/2" width) in a magazine
competition (yippeeee - I never win competitions, though the questions
were hardly mind-blowing as all the answers were in the articles in the
mag.!) and have been looking for free Jelly Roll patterns with almost no
success (only found one).

Has anyone had more success than me. I know I could look through
Quilters Cache for something - but what?

I won't know the colours until the roll arrives.

Jelly Rolls are long strips of 2 1/2" wide fabric,
so any pattern that converts to this measurement will work.

My group has been making quilts just sewing the strips together in a
pleasing arrangement and making one row near the top and one near the
bottom made up of a matching charm packet. For the charm packet we
cut circles from half of the squares and blanket stitch to a different
charm square. You can see mine here:

Gee, Sandy, thanks. I looked at the Scrappy Triangles Doll quilt and
realized that there was a good way to use part of the bushel of squares I've
cut from my bottomless pit of a scrap bin. I think I'll begin with a doll
size quilt and let it grow so far as my mini attention span enjoys the doing

Thank you everyone - I have put all the suggestions in a folder ready
for when the prize arrives and I find out which fabric I've got.

I got my November magazine today - must do the competitions! Perhaps I

The American Patchwork and Quilting magazine had a table runner using a roll
of strips. The pic is here

Click on the 'next' button and there is a color option page that HAS THE
RUNNER INSTRUCTIONS in it.

I find that the magazine lately puts quite a few patterns from issues on the
website. They are kind of hidden in the 'color options' buttons. When you
look at the options there is often a button to download instructions for the
project in a pdf file.

If you add a pack of charm squares to your jelly roll, you could easily whip
up another 'option' quilt.

As others have mentioned, Bonnie at Quiltville has a lot of free patterns,
and she uses a lot of strips. The 'sisters choice' quilt is done ENTIRELY
with fabric 2 1/2" wide

There are several acrylic templates available that will let you use the
strips for half square triangles, diamonds, and other shapes. Not that you
would need it for one roll of strips.. but if, like me, you find yourself
purchasing jelly rolls in your local LQS because they are just so
pretty..... some tools might be useful. ;-)

And, you could also go simple. I strip pieced 9-patch and rail fence blocks
from a set of strips I had. They are waiting to be placed into a scrappy
throw.
