Long time absent from the group without permission but things happen in life
that we have very little control over.
Anyway just thought I would poke my head round the door and say hello once
again, after having to delete almost 11.000 messages!
Quilting has been taking place but not at the rate I would like it to have
been, and here I am stuck with ideas on how to bind a Cathedral Windows WH!
Do you have any suggestions please???

I don't want a conventional bound border as such, but I do want to make sure
all the edges have a tidy finish to them.

I have made the *window frames* in a very pale beige bordering on off white,
and the *panes* are in assorted shades of browns ranging through to a bright
yellow which gives it a bit of a lift.

Anyway I won't take any more of your time for the moment, but look forward
to reading your suggestions for my CWWH.

Cheers m'dears

Hi! Don't recognize the name, but welcome back! I can't help with your CW
query, but I like you signature! Of course, I don't know if the dictionary
at my house mentions housework, but maybe that's just because Spike ran off
with that, too.

This may sound a bit unconventional, but for a CW with no raw edges why not
apply a medium weight satin cord? The kind that looks like a twisted rope.
In Denmark, they put this stuff along the edges of X-stitch bell pulls to
add an elegant finish. Just whip stitch to the edge with a single thread,
which will tend to disappear into the twists. You could even hide the ends
of the cord in matching tassels at the corners... It comes in lots of
colors, such as a chocolate brown, or even metallic gold.

Hullo there
How about finishing your wallhanging with a facing, rather than
conventional border or binding?
I like to use this method when the main work is unique and I don't want
to distract the eye from it. It is not hard to do and, if you are
careful to get the seam exactly on the edges, looks really 'smart'. I
plan to do a large 'folded fabric' WH as my next but one project and
that is how I shall probably finish it - unless I do prairie points!!!
(and that depends how big it turns out!)

Housework?.........what's housework?

Would a satin ribbon look out of place? Only thing that came to mind!

Does this mean you drape satin ribbon all over the house before company is
coming--they think you have been very BUSY being 'crafty/quilty' or the QI has
been having a ball with it ---and they think 'poor you' all that cleaning for us
and look at the mess the QI made <vbg.

OR, try a facing with piping/cording. The piping makes the facing very easy to
turn to the back and gives a nice clean finish to the edge.

Satin sounds right up my street!! However I don't really think this WH lends
itself to anything too ostentatious. More drab than lively but looking good
even if I do say so myself.

Thanks for the suggestion Dreamweaver and lovely to see you back on form ;0)

I really like this idea Roberta, would solve the problem of what to use for
hanging it with too.

Thanks,

Patti, I stitched Prairie Points on a single quilt and would never do them
again! Every single one was hand sewn in place and my fingers ended up
calloused despite the thimbles I wore :0)

I wouldn't mind trying out any other folding techniques but CW was the
quickest for me so far.

Thanks for the input though.

Slip sliding straight past that one, as you do if you have ever tried
sitting or sleeping on satin!

Thanks for the tip 'Gardener'!
I will drop them from my vague plans <g>. I'm not downhearted - I
wasn't completely sold on the idea.
I absolutely love your 'sig of today'. I wish I'd thought of it <g>
