If you are looking for a sewing machine, there is a shop in Pasadena called
Bearly Stitchin', but they don't have much fabric.
Have a great trip. Bigbearlady

There's also:
Luella's Quilt Basket in Manhattan Beach (just south of L.A. Airport).
1840 N. Sepulveda Blvd.; phone is 310-545-3436.
The Cotton Shop in Hermosa Beach (another 10 minutes south). Don't
have the phone number; it's on Artesia, between Aviation on the West
and Hawthorne Blvd. on the East.
And a half-hour north of the airport is Crazy Ladies & Friends in
Santa Monica, at 2451 Santa Monica Blvd. (between 26th St. and
Chelsea). Phone is 310-828-3122.
In case it hasn't been mentioned, there's Quilt 'N' Things in Montrose
on the west end of Honolulu (the only real shopping street in quaint
little Montrose). I visited it for the first time this weekend and
WOW. New ownership. Can't compare it to the old ('cause I never saw
it), but I couldn't believe the wonderful selection of fabric.
Just beware of the heat ... summer has arrived with a vengeance.

Well, this sounds as good a place to de-lurk as any, so here goes.....
M & L Fabrics, 3430 W. Ball Rd. Anaheim, 92804 714-995-3178
This is a *huge* discount fabric store that carries many name brands (i.e.
Robert Kaufman, Hoffman and Liberty). They have aisles and aisles of flat
fold fabrics starting at $1.59/yd and bolts start at $1.98/yd. Definitely
a place to visit, but the "help" (and I use that term very loosely) is
known to be a bit rude. Also be warned that you may have trouble if you
are using an out-of-state check, your drivers license number is not
preprinted on the check or your address on the license does not match that
of the check.
Even though they display such hurdles, whenever I am in Orange County (I
live in San Bernardino County) I make a point to visit the store to see
what lovelies are calling my name, and there are usually quite a number of
them!

I've never heard of this place, being up in L.A. County. Will
definitely put it on the "must see" list. Do you know if it's a
chain, or a single shop?
Thanks!
M & L is a single shop. I plan to go up there hopefully in the next week
or so. I have heard many wonderful things about it.

Hi Karen!
No, it isn't a chain. It is a discount fabric super store. They do
fabric, patterns and some assorted notions. That is their gig. No
toys, unlike the store that shall remain nameless, and no crafts. I
have spent hours upon hours there...ah.....the memories! :o)

That's great that you got her to smile! Usually they are muttering to
themselves or to the customers. I'm sure that they are not "rude" inherently
though. I know the owner brings friends and family members from his home
country, so it my merely be cultural. It is usually no big deal, I go there
to take as much advantage of their prices as I can possibly afford. :o)
A group get-together at M & L?! Oooooo, count me in!

:o) Thanks! Well, I've been lurking for over four years now, and I figure I've
posted about a dozen messages during those years. I enjoy the discussions so I
thought I might as well pipe up on the Cali. shops question since I have lived
here all my life.
Lets see.......hmmmm....I'm a beautiful young princess from a far away foreign
country. I'm currently trapped in my father's castle because he is forcing me
to marry an elderly lord who has a huge hairy wart on his lip.
Okay, none of that is true (except for the beautiful part ;o). As horrible as
it sounds, I made it all up. My apologies. ;o)
Keeping it basic...... I am really in my mid twenties and was born and raised
in Orange County, California. (Even so, I am not a beach bunny and despise the
heat!) Last month, I graduated with a BA in Communications--Public Relations.
My husband and I just bought a house in Chino Hills, CA and I adore it! It
backs up to a "green belt," which is like a mini forest with a stream.
I am a self-taught machine quilter who has been dragged, kicking and screaming,
into doing handwork appliqué for a Secret Pal project for my guild. I have
figured out that handwork is not my friend, in fact, we are bitter enemies!
Other than that, I just rescued an adorable 7 week old QI from the local Target
parking lot and he is now residing with my other two QI's who aren't sure they
want him to stay.

Thanks Karen! :o)
I haven't had the time to get any quilting done for too long, therefore
I'm taking some time off so I can get some projects completed. I have
had a lot of S.E.X. however, so plenty of projects are calling my name.
I just got back from the "SCRUB Factory" where I purchased a 10 lb. bag
of fabric. It only cost me $10! I am very excited and cannot wait to
start!!
