I am working on Cross My Heart Inc's pattern The Mother's Poem. I am almost
done and brought it to work with me today, only to notice that in the bright
light of the office that 2 of the leaves that are dark green I accidentally
stitched in dark blue, guess I need brighter light to stitch by at home.
<vbg> So I will probably finish it up, then frog those 2 leaves and then do
the final backstitch, clean, and then off to the framer's - hopefully by next
week.

Most of my stitching time is going back and forth on two Mirabilias. I am
almost done with the cross stitch on "Adia the Garden Fairy." The colors are
beautiful! Then I'll have to start on the zillions of beads needed to finish
her. I am completely done with the cross stitch on Mirabilia's "Waiting for
Ships" and in the middle of beading her. Then, very occasionally, I get out
TW's "Peaceable Kingdom," which is going VERY slowly!

I'm almost done with "Story Hour" by Studio B, and have MLI's "Lady of the
Thread" kitted up and ready to start. It will be my reward for finishing
Story Hour. I also have Amish Star in scroll frames, but not much done on
it, and have partially finished a freebie dragon & stack of books for the
library's summer reading program (Read Quest) this summer. I'm also
waiting for a friend's daughter to find out the sex of her baby (due in
June) so she can decide how to decorate the nursery. I also (do I have
enough alsos???) have seven tablecloths to do for this year's birthdays for

of course this all depends on how much free time i have as a student

I'm working on Mystic Dragon II, a green & blue Chinese dragon with a circular
border, on black linen. I was going to set up a rotation, but I think, now that
I've gotten used to the black linen, I'd best keep going on it until it's
finished, rather than "spoil" myself with lighter fabric again! :-)

It's going well, but if I were to start it over again, I would probably leave
out the blending filament, or use it in smaller areas than called for.

It's a present for a friend's birthday, but it's not going to be done on time.
Fortunately, in my circle of friends, we don't take dates very seriously--it's
the thought that counts!

I've picked up the Cross My Heart Serenity Prayer that I started 2?
years ago. My second linen piece. Because there's a lot of half cross
I reversed the way I stitch which makes me have to THINK more. I know
that some stitches are stitched in the other direction but oh well. I
finally got out of the trees and did some flowers which was
encouraging, and last night I got to the bottom of the piece and can
now work my way over. I prefer the lettering to the xs! I also
recharted "God" to "Goddess" and redid the "y" in "serenity" - it
looks like an "n" on the chart! That's my home project. My travel
project is a bookmark with January carnations on it, for an unmet
friend who keeps one of my favorite mailing lists running. I'm on the

leaves yet to do.

At work, the Ice Storm Delayed Hardanger (which is very silly - it's
very small, and likely won't take more than a couple hours to finish,
but was hard to pick up after trying to do it by candle-light...
<shudder>), and in a sort of rotation now, Dragon Dreams' "Dragon's
Garden", MLI's "Celtic Christmas" and Ross Originals "Snow Leopard".
And as those get done, I'm (trying to) replace them with other UFO's, of
which I have a ridiculously large number. If I can get that number
tamed a bit, I can then toss in the 5 or 6 other projects I have the
materials for..... <G>

Hi all--

I am currently working on three projects:

a pilot project for a potential EGA Correspondence Course--beginning
hardanger. We're critiquing the instructions and diagrams for the designer.
It's a pretty project. Needs to be done March 19.

an adaptation of a Laurel Burch pattern of three cats, going from counted
cross stitch to needlepoint, and I'm doing a lot of fun things with stitches
and fibers. This is my first attempt at revising a pattern in that way.
Needs to be done by mid-June (I think) to enter into the EGA Competing
Needles competition.

a "morning in the desert" scene, by Fireside Originals. I've stalled on this
one because the chart is somewhat hard to follow, and there's no deadline
for it. This is part of a series--there are also "afternoon in the desert"
and "sunset in the desert" scenes. They're really pretty, I just wish the
chart wasn't such a pain.

Next up for me are baby sampler for brother and sister in law, and wedding
samper for other brother and fiance.

I'm working on Stitcher's Habit Not Even A Moose -- he's adorable and
stitching up pretty quickly too.

I've finished chapter one of Just Nan's Patience, just starting on
chapter two (but it's been put down because I'm enjoying working on the
Moose!)

I received my materials for Victoria Sampler's Heart To Heart cyberclass
and have some pre-homework to do on it before the class starts in 3
weeks (can't wait!! it's so pretty).

And, TW's The Castle, the project that may take me a lifetime to
finish. I have only the top part of the dragon left to do but haven't
been motivated to work on it (I go in fits and starts with this one,
took me 5 years just to work up the courage to start it and it's been an
on-and-off relationship for 3 or 4 years now). It sits there in its
floor stand, mocking me.

There's a few half-started/half-finished pieces lurking in my project
bag -- Shepherd's Bush The Promise (which just needs the beads and
ribbon done), a Just Nan Christmas sampler (name escapes me), MLI's
Celtic Christmas (I have most of the skirt done, except for the
metallics and beads) and a little Shepherd's Bush sampler (blueberry or
something like that -- now you know how long it's been since I looked at
them). Oh, and Happy Everything -- it's about 1/3 to 1/2 done (another
long-term project, I think I started it before The Castle). Gee whiz,
there's that Tartanpoint cushion around somewhere too ....

Okay, so there's more than a FEW UFOs :) We won't talk about what's
lurking in the rest of the stash. And to think I was going to have
S.E.X. this weekend ... it's been months since the last experience :)
But perhaps I'd better clear some room in the project bag(s)!

Oooh, I have that chart. Am right now working a Mill Hill "Victorian

deer and eagles and so on, right? Hmmm. I'm more of a specialty stitch
gal myself, but the wildlife theme was so attractive when I bought the
chart!

I'm also stitching a tiny darning pattern pincushion top (my rotation
reward for hanging in with larger projects), and still working on LA's

Well lets see. I am working on Blue Moon angel and Angel of Spring and

It continually amazes me that so many people have two or three or more
projects on the go at the same time. I might have to try that. My
current piece is the Legacy Sampler by Sally Ann Designs. Next up will
be either a Dutch sampler dated from 1790 (a very large piece) or The
Herb Gatherer by Shephard's Bush - or maybe both!!

Hi ya...

I'm working on Mirabilia's 'Fairy Moon' and now have even more
respect for those stitcher's who have completed several Mirabilia's or
MLI's.

I've been stitching for a lot of years, but this design is
soooo big! I've already got around 90 hrs. into her and still have
all the skirt, half-stitch and beading to do :( But, she's gonna be
gorgeous!!!

Take care, Linda :)

I changed the fabric color to Dark Teal Bealfast Linen ( I believe, I don't
really remember). It looks pretty good but I don't have a clue how the wings
are going to look when I come to them (I'm quite a ways away from that though).
There is a picture of her in the Stitchery's new catalogue, it looks MUCH
better than the one on the pattern IMHO. They sell it kitted, but I don't
remember the cost. I saw the photo and was once again amazed at how beautiful
she is. BTW Guess who had S.E.X. today? I was kinda disappointed though I had
planned on getting a some crystal treasures and mill hill beads that weren't at
the store when I went last time, but they were not there this time either. I
have not shopped there very often as they carry many samplers but few other
designs. The shop has just changed hands recently and I just noticed that they
don't have any of the new Mirabilia's and they no longer have the Kreinik
Metalics.
Oh well I guess it's off to mail order some stuff, I always was one for Instant

I am nearing the end of Muppet Treasure Island - Captain Kermit.
THankfully I am doing it on Lugana instead of the aida it came it.
It has millions of quarter stitches and three-quarter stitches. Ihave the
captain and the raft all done, and am now stitching miles and miles of
red for the big flag. I have taken to pacing myself with little breaks
of back stitching, and doing the flag pole and the letters as a break
from all the red. I will be SO glad when it is done.

as for what is next.....the stash is SO high, but I think I will dig
into the fruit box labels from DMC.

Hi Marilyn,

Unfortunately, AFAIK, this is only available as a Dimensions (I think) kit. I
recently bought this with a big coupon at my Ben Franklins, but I will
definitely be replacing the Aida with something else, and I may also match the
floss to DMC. I normally don't buy kits, but I just had to have the chart.

They're charts from Dutch Treat Designs. I came accross the web site
accidentally & did three little tabletoppers from her free chart. She has
photos of the tablecloths on the web site too. I couldn't decide which ones to
get - so in true r.c.t.n. spirit, I ordered one of each. I found Afghan fabric
at Jo-Anns & bought a whole bolt (5 yards) with my 50 % off coupon the day
after Xmas. I don't really like the fabric, since some squares are 42 stitches
(over 2) wide & some are 44 ore 46, but for the price (12.99/yard - with 50%
off of that) I can fudge it to make it work. If I had the $$$ I would buy
"real" Anne cloth & do it right, but that's out of the question - at least
until the business gets out of debt (or out of business). I'm using #5 perle
cotton instead of Caron Watercolors, too, for the same reasons. When I looked
at the price of the Watercolors, I chickened out . I'd hate to have to explain
to the mortgage company why their check was short this month. :-)))))
To get back on the subject, the tablecloths are 3 squares by 3 squares of
Anne Cloth - with different designs. Claudia is working on two more, too - an
Irish one & a Wedding one. I guess I'll have to get those too. :-)) She was
great to deal with, answered all my questions & mailed them out as quickly as
she received my check.

Oh dear, you just had to ask....I'm having a rather 'fragmented' New
Year. Can't seem to settle into a rotation

Worked on today: a green man design I worked up from graphic I found
on-line (multiple shades of green, done on 32 count black linen).

Need to work on:
a pair of blackwork cuffs for a SCA gift basket (got the design, got
the materials, just haven't started them)

Ross Originals Barn Owl - about 3/4 done, done on navy blue 28 count
linen. More shade of brown and tan than I thought believable - but
utterly realistic!

TW's Mermaid - only the top part of the frame done, just starting the
body of the work. This is definitely gonna be a post-millennium(sp?)
finish....

Mystic Dragon I - about 1/4 done. another piece on black linen - why
am I torturing myself this way???? (but it looks fabulous!!)

Mirabilia's Christmas Elegance - about 1/3 done - she's gorgeous, but
does Ms. Nora own stock in the Mill Hill company, or what??

MLI's Santa of the Forest - I'm doing this one on a dark green....the
red of his coat just GLOWS!! Just started this one recently.....

A needlepoint sampler pattern I just picked up so I can play with some
fibers and review my needlepoint stiches....been nearly a decade since
I worked on an open canvas, and there's so many new things to play
with!!

Calling my name from the wings: I came up with a design for the SCA
arms of a dear friend of mine - gonna do this one in silk over one on
25 count linen (cream colored - not black - maybe I'm learning??)

Trying to decide on: Maybe Helen would like a box with Julie Hasler's
'Leo' design on the top for her birthday in August. Or I could use
waste canvas to embroider her a new tote bag - I got a few at the
after-Christmas sale at Michaels. Maybe her initials?? I could use
those Celtic letters, or use a couple of the roses from Donna Giampa's
rose alphabet leaflet. Of course, I do have those new miniature
designs I bought at the LNS this afternoon.....

Hi there, rctn brains trust!

I am just starting on a pice called "Shades of Gold" by Judy Whitman
which is worked in Kreinik metallic cord and braid, with MH beads and
brass charms. It's stitched over 2 on 28ct Zweigart Cashel linen. I
have never worked on linen, or with metallics, or with beads & charms.
Luckily I have _plenty_ of gridding to do while I pick the rctn
collective brain *LOL*!

As the stitching is all done with a single strand (another 1st!), I
don't know if I can use the looping method to fix the thread to the
needle- can I do it but just leave a short tail on one side of the
needle?

What's the best way to start and end threads with metallics? I have a
nasty feeling it's going to be even springier than rayons..?

And - should I run the thread over a damp sponge to uncurl it, or leave
it alone?

I intend to finish the stitching, then attach beads, then the charms
which seems to be the way others do it.. but what about washing the
piece? Should I wash it at all? Before attaching the charms or after?

And just *what* am I getting myself into here, anyway *g*? Please,
throw all the advice you can- I have checked the FAQs and am still at a
bit of a loss.

Many thanks and happy stitching to you all!

Hi Shelia,
Right now I have 4 projects in rotation: 1) a dreidle for a Chanukah
decoration(NP)-did one last year and promised myself 1 a year; 2) Floral
Wreath by Stoney Creek for my TT's Floss Box; 3)a NP of a Bride & Groom
Silhouette in front of a setting sun over the ocean and 4) James
Himsworth's Ocean Princess. I just started doing a rotation in December,
although I stopped it long enough to do a wedding gift (Wedding Doves) for
my niece and her new hubby. I'm really enjoying doing the rotation. There
are some things I get bored with and some things I get frustrated with, so
this way working on each a week at a time, I don't have enough time to be
too bored or frustrated! Also, I'm getting to work on things I've had in
the "to do" pile for a long time and thought I'd never get to, so it's kind
of exciting. Now I don't feel so bad if I buy some more stuff for my
stash. Of course, as things come up for gifts, or deadlines, I'll set the
rotation aside. BTW, I'm also working on a crocheted afghan for my
granddaughter. Hope you've gotten inspiration from all the rsvp's to your
post. Good Luck! Tobie

I just loaded up my bag with 7 new projects:

1. Paper Valentine, Fanci That. About 1/4 done.

2. Mini Mumms, Debbie Mumm. Have done 2, want to do 2 more.

3. Shamrock Heart, Sweetheart Tree.

4. Easter Chick from CS&N magazine, last year.

5. He is Risen from the same magazine.

6. English Carpet, Maureen Appleton.

7. A doily to crochet.

All the projects are small - just what I need to feel like I am making
progress since my kids are still young. The kids are getting older, and I
am thinking about starting another TW (I did the Unicorn 6 years ago), but
now we are moving, so I will wait to start something complicated to save my

1. Linda Drskell's "Heirloom Whitework Sampler" (for an EGA class)

2. The Common Thread's "Iris Sampler" (also for a class)

3. an old kit with a rocking horse design by Gloria and Pat

4. Lena Liu's "Millennium Angel"--which means I now have to recall and
apply all thata dvice about dealing with large map-folded, multi-colored
charts...

5. Genny Morrow's "Nova"

6. Stoney Creek's "Values Sampler" (from SOCS 1997; it's the only one
of the '97 projects I didn't finish *in* '97, but it's sat untouched
since then...)

The project under my needle these past couple days is the Iris Sampler.
I'm working on the titular irises, which are made up of queen stitches;

It *is* fun to list all the stuff we're in the middle of!

1. 12 days of Christmas from CS&CC Mar/Apr '89. I'm doing them two-sided,
with the intent of hanging them across the beam which runs through the living
room (Christmas time only). BTW, I _haven't_ been working on them since '89;
only since '97. Now that I've started the rotation method, I believe they will
be complete by this Christmas (hope-hope)!

2. Quillt Block Quartet by Marie Ary -- an EGA project from November.

3. "Bless This Child" from CS&CC '87. I did the Marriage and Home pics for
the wedding gift; baby's on the way. Everything is done except the name and
birth date.

4. Gay Ann Rogers' Mystery Sampler -- EGA project which began in January.
I'm just waiting for part 2, which we'll get next month.

5. Charting out a design based upon the picture from the front of our church
bulletin. I'm excited about doing something like this, and nervous as well.
Hoping it turns out well.

That's all for now, but once I get through the rotation again I get to add a
new project. Yippee! (That's what I *love* about rotation!) Already trying
to decide what it shall be. Shall I dive into my stash of charts? Perhaps
something from my stash of kits. Of course, I _could_ go out and buy something
new! Oooh, S.E.X.! Have to wait and see how the mood strikes.

Oh Nan - I have Janet Powers' "Beets" and "Cabbage" kitted up to go.
"Beets" is especially calling to me! What fabric are you using?

I had an idea yesterday for a present for my mother's birthday - she
is always teasing me about stitching on tea towels, and she actually
uses dish towels, so I thought I would make her some tea towels and
visualized a large script-ish "T" in the corner with a little teacup
nestling in the bend of the T. (T towels, get it?) I looked through
my alphabets and patterns and didn't quite see what I wanted - so I
designed it myself!!! And I got one completely stitched last night
(well, it's small and simple) using 12 count waste canvas. I did it
in shades of delft blue, the cup has yellow and blue stripes. I am in
the middle of a second one in shades of purple. They are so quick and
cute!

Alison
actually designed something!

It's underlining for emphasis.

I would love to see a picture of the Common Thread's Iris Sampler. I
tried looking on the web using a search engine, but didn't have any luck.
Does anyone know where it's located?

Thanks!

Alison, I'm using white Belfast for it. I also have the "Carrots" design but not
the two you have. I love Janet Powers' stuff. :-)

Love the description of your "T" towels, too! Very witty!

This is what I have in my rotation right now -

1. Marget Drake Sampler, dtd 1677, Internet Class
2. Snowy Days, Mirabilla (hope to enter at Rockome Gardens
this year)
3. English Elegance, Maureen Appleton
4. My Favorite Things, Drawn Thread (hope to also enter at
Rockome Gardens this year)
5. Fair Philomel's Sampler, Shepherd's Bush

Oh - I have now entered my Desiderata Sampler (Indigo Rose) in
it's third xstitch show. This one is in St. Charles, MO. I
won 1st place at Rockome Gardens and 3rd place in Lebanon, IL
so maybe it will win something at the St. Charles show also -
I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

And the asterisks bracketing a word make it italicized (sp?).

Helen, who's experimenting with Rotation and loving it!

Sounds absolutely adorable. Maybe you should explore the possibility of
selling the chart to a magazine!

I love MLI. I have a great variety of her patterns and the materials to do
them. Now, all I need is the time. Try her Blue Moon Angel, it's
absolutely beautiful!!!!! And, her seasonal Angels are also beautiful.
Her Santa Claus' are time consuming but worth the effort. If you're
interested in any more of her designs, I can give you the name of a craft
shop in Oak Harbor, WA that specializes in Cross Stitch and has the majority
of her designs on hand.

Have a great great day!!!!! And, a better day tomorrow!!!!!!

I might as well reply to this, since I'm the one who first brought up this
pattern. I don't know of any picture on the web, so I'm sorry I can't
point you towards one.

I will also admit that the picture even on my pattern doesn't do the piece
justice. What little of it I've done is so dependent on the texture---
like the way all those queen stitches look together to make a flower---
and the texture is exactly what doesn't really come through in the photo.

Once I get a little further along, I could post a description of the
piece; since it;s being done as a semi-coreespondence course, I only
have the first half of the directions. So any description I gave
now would be woefully incomplete. :)

If anyone's interested in hearing a fuller descrption when I can give one,
just let me know.

Sorry i can't help more,
Sherri

The project that I'm working is making christmas ornaments out of electronic
breadboards (looks like preferated paper but is made of hard plastic). I
tried stitching with thread, but found that seed beads worked much better.
My dh bought me a dremel tool for my birthday so I could cut the boards into
the size I need. I then use a jewlery circle for the ribbon and a piece of
felt for the back. So far they are turning out pretty cute.

I am also working on the Mirabella pattern I call "the poet" (the lady
sitting on a stone blusterade with a quill pen and a roll of parchament in
her lap). Since graduating in December, I finally have my weekends free.
Happy dance!
