working on finishing up the last of a 3 set kit, Cat's and

I'm almost done with "Story Hour" by Studio B, and have MLI's "Lady of the
Thread" kitted up and ready to start. It will be my reward for finishing
Story Hour. I also have Amish Star in scroll frames, but not much done on
it, and have partially finished a freebie dragon & stack of books for the
library's summer reading program (Read Quest) this summer. I'm also
waiting for a friend's daughter to find out the sex of her baby (due in
June) so she can decide how to decorate the nursery. I also (do I have
enough alsos???) have seven tablecloths to do for this year's birthdays for
my sisters & for Xmas next winter.

It's going well, but if I were to start it over again, I would probably leave
out the blending filament, or use it in smaller areas than called for.
It's a present for a friend's birthday, but it's not going to be done on time.
Fortunately, in my circle of friends, we don't take dates very seriously--it's

It's a pretty project. Needs to be done March 19.
an adaptation of a Laurel Burch pattern of three cats, going from counted
cross stitch to needlepoint, and I'm doing a lot of fun things with stitches
and fibers. This is my first attempt at revising a pattern in that way.
Needs to be done by mid-June (I think) to enter into the EGA Competing

a "morning in the desert" scene, by Fireside Originals. I've stalled on this
one because the chart is somewhat hard to follow, and there's no deadline
for it. This is part of a series--there are also "afternoon in the desert"

I've finished chapter one of Just Nan's Patience, just starting on
chapter two (but it's been put down because I'm enjoying working on the
Moose!)
I received my materials for Victoria Sampler's Heart To Heart cyberclass
and have some pre-homework to do on it before the class starts in 3
weeks (can't wait!! it's so pretty).
And, TW's The Castle, the project that may take me a lifetime to
finish. I have only the top part of the dragon left to do but haven't
been motivated to work on it (I go in fits and starts with this one,
took me 5 years just to work up the courage to start it and it's been an
on-and-off relationship for 3 or 4 years now). It sits there in its
floor stand, mocking me.
There's a few half-started/half-finished pieces lurking in my project
bag -- Shepherd's Bush The Promise (which just needs the beads and
ribbon done), a Just Nan Christmas sampler (name escapes me), MLI's
Celtic Christmas (I have most of the skirt done, except for the
metallics and beads) and a little Shepherd's Bush sampler (blueberry or
something like that -- now you know how long it's been since I looked at
them). Oh, and Happy Everything -- it's about 1/3 to 1/2 done (another
long-term project, I think I started it before The Castle). Gee whiz,
there's that Tartanpoint cushion around somewhere too ....
Okay, so there's more than a FEW UFOs :) We won't talk about what's
lurking in the rest of the stash. And to think I was going to have
S.E.X. this weekend ... it's been months since the last experience :)
But perhaps I'd better clear some room in the project bag(s)!

Oooh, I have that chart. Am right now working a Mill Hill "Victorian

Unfortunately, AFAIK, this is only available as a Dimensions (I think) kit. I

They're charts from Dutch Treat Designs. I came accross the web site
accidentally & did three little tabletoppers from her free chart. She has
photos of the tablecloths on the web site too. I couldn't decide which ones to
get - so in true r.c.t.n. spirit, I ordered one of each. I found Afghan fabric
at Jo-Anns & bought a whole bolt (5 yards) with my 50 % off coupon the day
after Xmas. I don't really like the fabric, since some squares are 42 stitches
(over 2) wide & some are 44 ore 46, but for the price (12.99/yard - with 50%
off of that) I can fudge it to make it work. If I had the $$$ I would buy
"real" Anne cloth & do it right, but that's out of the question - at least
until the business gets out of debt (or out of business). I'm using #5 perle
cotton instead of Caron Watercolors, too, for the same reasons. When I looked
at the price of the Watercolors, I chickened out . I'd hate to have to explain
to the mortgage company why their check was short this month. :-)))))
To get back on the subject, the tablecloths are 3 squares by 3 squares of
Anne Cloth - with different designs. Claudia is working on two more, too - an
Irish one & a Wedding one. I guess I'll have to get those too. :-)) She was
great to deal with, answered all my questions & mailed them out as quickly as
she received my check.
The web address for Dutch Treat Designs is <http://www.dutchtrt.com/>.
Not affiliated with..............just a happy customer. :-))
Liz from Humbug
Worked on today: a green man design I worked up from graphic I found
on-line (multiple shades of green, done on 32 count black linen).
Need to work on:
a pair of blackwork cuffs for a SCA gift basket (got the design, got
the materials, just haven't started them)
Ross Originals Barn Owl - about 3/4 done, done on navy blue 28 count
linen. More shade of brown and tan than I thought believable - but
utterly realistic!
TW's Mermaid - only the top part of the frame done, just starting the
body of the work. This is definitely gonna be a post-millennium(sp?)
finish....
Mystic Dragon I - about 1/4 done. another piece on black linen - why
am I torturing myself this way???? (but it looks fabulous!!)
Mirabilia's Christmas Elegance - about 1/3 done - she's gorgeous, but
does Ms. Nora own stock in the Mill Hill company, or what??
MLI's Santa of the Forest - I'm doing this one on a dark green....the
red of his coat just GLOWS!! Just started this one recently.....
A needlepoint sampler pattern I just picked up so I can play with some
fibers and review my needlepoint stiches....been nearly a decade since
I worked on an open canvas, and there's so many new things to play
with!!
Calling my name from the wings: I came up with a design for the SCA
arms of a dear friend of mine - gonna do this one in silk over one on
25 count linen (cream colored - not black - maybe I'm learning??)
Trying to decide on: Maybe Helen would like a box with Julie Hasler's
'Leo' design on the top for her birthday in August. Or I could use
waste canvas to embroider her a new tote bag - I got a few at the
after-Christmas sale at Michaels. Maybe her initials?? I could use
those Celtic letters, or use a couple of the roses from Donna Giampa's
rose alphabet leaflet. Of course, I do have those new miniature
designs I bought at the LNS this afternoon.....

projects before she starts any new ones!!

I love working with beads and metallic threads and such. I cuss a blue streak
while doing it, but I LOVE the finished work! How are you making out with the
beads?
Ruth
I am just starting on a pice called "Shades of Gold" by Judy Whitman
which is worked in Kreinik metallic cord and braid, with MH beads and
brass charms. It's stitched over 2 on 28ct Zweigart Cashel linen. I
have never worked on linen, or with metallics, or with beads & charms.
Luckily I have _plenty_ of gridding to do while I pick the rctn
collective brain *LOL*!
As the stitching is all done with a single strand (another 1st!), I
don't know if I can use the looping method to fix the thread to the
needle- can I do it but just leave a short tail on one side of the
needle?
What's the best way to start and end threads with metallics? I have a
nasty feeling it's going to be even springier than rayons..?
And - should I run the thread over a damp sponge to uncurl it, or leave
it alone?
I intend to finish the stitching, then attach beads, then the charms
which seems to be the way others do it.. but what about washing the
piece? Should I wash it at all? Before attaching the charms or after?
And just *what* am I getting myself into here, anyway *g*? Please,
throw all the advice you can- I have checked the FAQs and am still at a
bit of a loss.
Many thanks and happy stitching to you all!

Oh Nan - I have Janet Powers' "Beets" and "Cabbage" kitted up to go.
"Beets" is especially calling to me! What fabric are you using?
I had an idea yesterday for a present for my mother's birthday - she
is always teasing me about stitching on tea towels, and she actually
uses dish towels, so I thought I would make her some tea towels and
visualized a large script-ish "T" in the corner with a little teacup
nestling in the bend of the T. (T towels, get it?) I looked through
my alphabets and patterns and didn't quite see what I wanted - so I
designed it myself!!! And I got one completely stitched last night
(well, it's small and simple) using 12 count waste canvas. I did it
in shades of delft blue, the cup has yellow and blue stripes. I am in
the middle of a second one in shades of purple. They are so quick and
cute!

Helen, who's experimenting with Rotation and loving it!
Sounds absolutely adorable. Maybe you should explore the possibility of
selling the chart to a magazine!

I might as well reply to this, since I'm the one who first brought up this
pattern. I don't know of any picture on the web, so I'm sorry I can't
point you towards one.
I will also admit that the picture even on my pattern doesn't do the piece
justice. What little of it I've done is so dependent on the texture---
like the way all those queen stitches look together to make a flower---
and the texture is exactly what doesn't really come through in the photo.
Once I get a little further along, I could post a description of the
piece; since it;s being done as a semi-coreespondence course, I only
have the first half of the directions. So any description I gave
now would be woefully incomplete. :)
If anyone's interested in hearing a fuller descrption when I can give one,
just let me know.
Sorry i can't help more,
Sherri
I am also working on the Mirabella pattern I call "the poet" (the lady
sitting on a stone blusterade with a quill pen and a roll of parchament in
her lap). Since graduating in December, I finally have my weekends free.
Happy dance!
