Nope. That was Peter AsheR. He ended up in Hollywood at
Capitol Records as some sort of executive, I think.

Melinda,
Although I have never stitched a Peter Ashe stocking, I have stitched
some of his other canvases and they are a pleasure to stitch. I just
love his style and have quite a collection of his work in my to-do pile.
The canvases are well painted. If you prefer to work totally in tent
stitch, the colors are clearly defined and it isn't hard to decide what
color goes where. If you prefer working in other stitches, the areas
are big enough to show some decorative stitches.
Good luck if you decide to go for it!

My Mother, a woman who led an interesting and varigated life, died New Years
Day. She was a victim of senile dementia or Alhemizer's or what have you,
so although sad, her death was not tragic.
The family was supposed to meet in Maryland this Saturday for
services--right, from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Fort Collins and
southeastern Washington. White-out!!!
I had planned on going to some of the Washington area stores while there.
So I hope that I can impose on Wombat and Terry at a later date--I would
love to meet you.
This is probably the one chance I'll have to be maudlin, so... Even when
they are driving you crazy, telling you how to live your life, and you're
over 40, don't forget to hug them and tell them that they are special in
your life.
My mother's mother was the one who taught me how to embroider--the first
piece I did, we did together, and was finsihed in 1965 or so. And my father
who died in 1969, framed it for us. Mom was hopeless--she'd buy a project,
start it, and give it to me to rip out re-do and finish.

My deepest sympathies to you from someone who understands. I couldn't
help but get misty eyed reading your post. My grandmother has been
suffering from Alzheimer's for many years. Most recently it has gotten
much worse and the first Christams that I came home from college and
Bink (that's what we call her) didn't recognize me was devastating.
I feel like I've been mourning her loss for the past year, even though
she is still alive. (In fact she just turned 90 in November.)
Hang in there...
Joanne

I'm so sorry to hear about your mother passing away. My grandmother had
Alzheimer's disease, so I know what you mean about not being unexpected.
It is tough, though, when they do finally go.
My sympathies to you and your family.
Cari
Laurie,
The person you're remembering was named Peter Asher (sister of Jane,
then-girlfriend of Paul McCartney). He was from England. Peter Ashe,
the canvas painter, is an American.

Jane,
I am *so sorry* for your loss, however, your "mini lecture" brought tears to
my eyes...My mother sometimes drives me absolutely batty, but recently I
found that if I hug her and tell her I love her and say thank you for
everything she does for us, she relaxes. It's amazing what a little
appreciation will do....if only I had discovered this little secret sooner.
I'm going to call her tonite and tell her how special she is to me!

Jane, you have my deepest sympathy. My mother died some years ago,
two days after Christmas. She drove me nuts, nagged me, told me how
to live my life--and not a day goes by that I don't miss her! I
still talk to her and I'm sure she hears me. She taught me more than
I ever realized and I only hope I've done the same with my own
children.

Great minds think alike! I've been working on the same two stockings (also
for my husband and myself) and they are GORGEOUS, if I do say so myself.
<VBG> I am having the best time using new fibers and different stitches,
its like painting on canvas. IMHO, Peter Ashe stockings make great
heirloom pieces and I know you'll have a great time stitching them,
whether you do them in tent stitch or use other decorative stitches.
Oh, BTW the background of the angel stocking (if it's the same as the one
I have) is a very dark navy blue, not black, but you could stitch it in
black if you wanted.
Happy stitching,
Jo
